Meet Meli! His name means "honey" in Hawaiian, and unlike some of his island-named litter mates, we actually think he will be as-advertised.

Meli is a beautiful long-haired orange tabby who's taking the scenic route to friendship. He's a little shy, a little cautious, and not entirely convinced that humans are worth all the hype. The good news? He's willing to hear your case.

You can absolutely shower Meli with affection, and he'll generally tolerate it with the patient expression of someone humoring a well-meaning relative. He isn't the type to demand pets or climb into your lap just yet, but little by little, he's beginning to realize that people aren't half bad.

The real shortcut to Meli's heart, however, is playtime.

Break out a wand toy, a crinkly ball, or just about anything that moves, and suddenly his curiosity takes over. Meli is endlessly fascinated by the world around him, and his playful nature has become the key to helping him build confidence. Every game is another opportunity for him to forget he's supposed to be shy and simply enjoy being a kitten.

Meli will do best with a patient, cat-savvy adopter who understands that the best friendships aren't always instant. Give him the time he needs, keep the toys coming, and let his curiosity lead the way. We have a feeling that underneath all that gorgeous orange fluff is a wonderfully well-rounded companion just waiting for his confidence to catch up with him.
