Tanwyn was found in an alleyway, huddled and injured, with wounds on her chest and the disorientation of neurological trauma — likely struck by a car, though she isn’t saying. She was in no condition to be where she was. She has since relocated, recovered, and now is a beautiful bird who looks like she belongs in a painting!
Tanwyn is a Ukrainian Skycutter — a rare and ancient breed developed in Ukraine over centuries, prized for their elegant appearance and remarkable flying ability. They are a refined, medium-sized pigeon with clean lines and — as Tanwyn demonstrates — feathering that is genuinely striking. Her plumage is a warm, luminous white, dense and soft-textured in a way that photographs almost like candlelight.
As a fancy domestic breed, Skycutters are not equipped for alleyway survival, which is how Tanwyn ended up needing rescue in the first place. Her balance isn’t perfect following the neuro trauma — a lasting trace of what she went through — but she has otherwise recovered fully and navigates her world with the composed, unhurried quality of a bird who has made her adjustments and moved on. The wobble is hers. It doesn’t slow her down in any way that matters!
Tanwyn awaits a home that understands her balance situation and can provide stable, safe footing — nothing precarious, nothing that asks more of her equilibrium than she can reliably offer. In return she will bring a rare and quietly remarkable presence to whatever room she occupies. Ukrainian Skycutters were bred to cut through the sky with grace and precision. Tanwyn has retired from that particular pursuit, but the grace part? Still very much present.
