Saadiya means fortunate. It is, given the circumstances under which she was found, an extremely well-chosen name.
She arrived as a tiny baby all by herself at a loading dock, which is not, by any measure, a promising start. She was covered in grease. She was very small. She was not, at that particular moment, in a position to advocate for herself. But volunteer Barbara found her, took her home, bathed her with the kind of care that a grease-covered baby bird requires, and raised her from that improbable beginning into the bird she is today.
The bird she is today has opinions.
Saadiya is confident, curious, and sassy! She hops up and down the stairs of her foster home with the purposeful energy of someone who has a full agenda and no interest in being slowed down. She investigates everything. She is not a bird who sits quietly in the corner waiting to be noticed; she is a bird who has already noticed everything and has thoughts about most of it!
She will always be small — the loading dock start in her early days left her on the petite end of things permanently. But she is operating at full pigeon intensity regardless, in the way that small creatures sometimes do, as though her personality simply did not receive the memo about her stature. The fresh clean feathers that Barbara’s careful bathing helped restore are lovely. The bird wearing them is lovelier still, and very much aware of it.
Saadiya was found at her most vulnerable, and raised into someone entirely sure of herself. She is fortunate, yes. She looks forward to making the most of her good fortune in her adoring forever home!
