Marigold is a beautiful six year old champagne colored yorkie. She is the sweetest little lady, and she loves being around her people. Because of the difficult breeding situation she was in, she is is still timid and often fearful of new sounds and strange things in the yard. She has had close encounters with a large magnolia leaf, a huge pinecone, and numerous black walnuts that cause her to jump and react; however, as she becomes used to the environment in the yard, she is calming down and approaching new items with more curiosity and less fear.
Marigold eats twice a day and usually follows up her morning meal with a walk that allows her to do her business without any problems. While she isn't truly "housebroken," she has not had any accidents in the house in over 10 days and is on a schedule that gives her exercise as well as a chance to take care of business. She is not fond of the leash and probably had little or no experience with one before coming to us. She is doing well when walking on a little longer lead that gives her some space. When the foster family is in a fenced enclosure, they drop the leash, and she follows them closely, She is starting to venture away to check out some new smells in the area but quickly returns to their side. She does like to be near her people outside as well as in.
She does play with a toy from time to time, and again, probably has had little chance to play with toys, so learning to play is new to her. She absolutely loves other dogs. They have had her around dogs her size as well as a 100 pound chocolate lab, and as soon as she recognizes another dog, her little tail just wags and wiggles. A home with another dog would likely help her be less timid and learn to romp. She likes children and would do well with older ones that would be able to understand that loud noises are still new and scary to her.
Marigold is crate trained (to a fault) and sometimes has to be encouraged to be out of her crate during the day. They shut the door after morning breakfast and walk time to encourage her to explore her home more often. She enjoys sitting on the sofa with her family but needs to be picked up and put there. She will sleep well in her crate over night, but we know from some thunderstorm nights, that she likes to sleep near her people as well. She does bark when thunderstorms approach in the night, not so much in the daytime, but calms immediately when near one of her people on the sofa or bed. Other than thunderstorms, she rarely barks or makes a noise. She is still trying to figure out windows, reflections, and dogs on tv! She will be a great addition to your home and with patience and love will leave her fears behind.
