Meet Johnny, a 5-year-old Wirehaired Vizsla /Hound mix, weighing 100 pounds (as of 6/7/26). This poor guy was left behind when his owners unfortunately divorced and moved away. He'll always love his previous owners, but Johnny's excited to meet his new fur-ever family! He hopes it's yours!
If you're looking for a gentle giant to share your life with, look no further than Johnny! This handsome big guy may be extra-large in size, but his heart is even bigger. Sweet, affectionate, and easygoing, he loves spending time with his people and is happiest when he's by your side. He is housebroken and sleeps in his crate over night.
Despite his impressive stature, he walks beautifully on leash and is a pleasure to take out and about. Like many dogs, he occasionally gets distracted by the sight of a squirrel, but a quick reminder is all it takes to get his focus right back where it belongs. He enjoys getting out for a nice stroll, though he's not looking to train for a marathon after a good walk, he's more than happy to settle in for some well-earned relaxation and watch his favorite movie, Ratatouille!
This gentle boy does wonderfully with children. Because of his size, he would likely do best in a home with kids ages 6 and up, simply to avoid accidentally knocking over little ones during moments of excitement. He does have a prey drive so no cats or critters would be best.
If youre searching for a loyal companion who combines the charm of a giant breed with the temperament of a teddy bear, this sweet boy may be the perfect match. Come meet him and see just how quickly hell win your heart!
MEDICAL DISCLOSURE: When Johnny was at daycare, there was an incident with his tail and a metal door. He's lost about 6" of his tail. During surgery, he had a bad reaction to Trazodone, the prescription medication, and had seizures. Since then, he's been on meds for seizures.
Bring this spirited giant home today! Johnny's waiting!

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
