Gilbert, rescued in Texas
1 year, 45lbs
Gilbert is a sweet and gentle soul who is incredibly calm for being just one year old. He's quiet, so despite his size he is great in apartments. He has a healed back leg fracture so will always walk with a limp but he is not in pain and this doesn't affect his mobility. He's just grateful to be in a loving foster home after being rescued in Texas, and can't wait to meet his forever humans!

More people‑oriented or independent? Independent but also loves people, its clear he loves his foster mom the most! But also enjoys pets from her friends
How do they handle new situations? Calm, curious and gentle. He has no signs of anxiousness or aggression at all

How are they with people (adults/kids/new people)? Relaxed and curious, eager to sniff them in a respectful manner
How are they with other dogs? Seems indifferent
Behavior when left alone or when guests visit: Very mellow and relaxed, he seems tired since I've gotten him as his days have been filled with activity!
🎓 Training & Manners
Potty trained? Yes - no accidents at all and sniffs at the door/waits there when he wants to go out
Crate trained? Not sure
Commands known (if any): We are working on sit! He seems to get it after a couple seconds, but doesn't know it right away. He's also been good with "leave it" as he likes picking up my slippers and socks.
🌞 Daily Life
Typical day with you: Three walks a day, breakfast at 8 am, dinner at 5:30 pm
Exercise needs: 20 minute walks seem to be perfect, and 10 minutes or so at the dog park. He'll play and run with me if I run but prefers to hang out next to me if I'm just sitting
Favorite activities or toys: Chilling on the couch

Anything they’re still working on? Sit! and also not jumping on the couch/bed until invited. He is fine with me wiping his paws when we come inside but also tries to sit on the couch during it :)
What helps them succeed? Treats and love, gentle pets and letting him come to you first

Only dog / With dog / Either: I can imagine very good with other dogs
Good fit for apartment living? Definitely
Best type of household (active, moderate, calm): Calm/Moderate
What kind of adopter would be the best match? Gilbert is very calm and relaxed at home, have never heard him bark or growl. Overall, his personality is so chill, mature and respectful its hard to believe he's 1 years old. He doesn't growl or bark at all when my friends have entered my apartment (or the neighbors walk by) and only greets them with light curiosity, then happily goes back on the couch. He would be an excellent first dog for someone. Note his right side hind leg has limited mobility, but it doesn't impact his walks or movement at all.
