Hello! I'm Seabiscuit. I've been told I'm a lovely, gentle, loyal, intelligent, quiet, and affectionate dog (who is looking for a cat-free home). I’ve been practicing the basics, and I’m already a star at sitting and walking on a leash. I love getting out for walks to burn off my silly energy. I’m also a big fan of stuffies, snuggles, and learning new things — everyone here says I’m an easygoing girl who picks things up fast. So, bring on the doggie curriculum.
A volunteer asked me to share this: "I’ve walked Seabiscuit at least half a dozen times; she’s one of the easier walkers at the shelter. In my experience, she’s unfazed by dogs, cars, prey, bikes, cars, loud noises, and people of all sizes. She’s also fairly small, doesn’t pull much (even harness-free), making for an altogether easy stroller! She doesn’t seek pets, so I didn’t think that she was very cuddly ... until I offered! Then she eagerly wagged her tail and turned over for belly rubs. She’s really easy going and was delighted to just park it on the grass, get some love, and chew her bone. Oh, and she does this adorable frog leg/sploot. She’s never jumped up on me, and no mouthiness. Her front legs are pretty striking- it’s like she’s wearing elegant white gloves over her brindle coat."
Yup, that sounds like me!
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
The terrier is a spirited and intelligent dog breed known for its feisty personality and boundless energy. Terriers come in various sizes and coat types, but they all share a common heritage as fearless and determined hunters. These dogs are typically highly trainable, making them versatile companions for active individuals and families alike. With their loyalty and playful demeanor, terriers are beloved for their endless enthusiasm and affectionate nature.
We are DC's only open-access shelter. We are always available to help any animal in the District of Columbia. We have cats, dogs, rabbits, and more available for adoption out of our two shelters and also run the Capital Area Spay and Neuter Center.
