My name is North, and for the last six years, the streets of Mecca have been my home.
Neighbors say I've had more than six litters of puppies. Litter after litter, I survived the heat, the streets, and motherhood the best way I knew how.
DPS originally came for me and another Shepherd with one goal: get us spayed so we would never have to bring another litter into this life. The plan was to return us to the area where neighbors had been feeding us.
But once they got us, they couldn't let us go back.
My body tells the story of the life I've lived. I have scars from years of surviving, but those days are finally behind me.
I'm estimated to be about 67 years old, and for the first time in my life, I have the chance to know what it feels like to truly belong to someone.
I may be a bigger girl, but DPS believes there is a family out there who will look past my size and my scars and see me.
After six years of surviving, I'm ready to stop surviving and finally start living.
My name is North, and I'm looking for my first real home.
