Pomeranian Dogs Available for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

POLARD

Pomeranian
🇨🇦
Toronto, Ontario
April 19th
male, small, adult

DESCRIPTION

Polard, born July 1, 2021, weighs in at 9.6 pounds. He was housed at a Canadian shelter, as a temporary measure, while his owner was seeking treatment, but his owner never came to claim him and the shelter was no longer able to contact his owner.

Polard was transferred into the care of Mattie's Place

He was brought up to date medically with his neuter, vaccines (including bordetella), deworming and parasite prevention: 3/30/26

He did come to Mattie's Place microchipped.

He has some tartar on his teeth and will presumably need a professional cleaning next year. He has no missing teeth and no damaged teeth.

We did professionally groom Polard on arrival as he was heavily matted. He will need a professional groom every couple months, so be sure that's budgeted into your cost factor when considering adoption.

He does have separation anxiety, so he'll need a plan around that anxiety if you work out of the home, but I am looking for someone home most often or take your dog to work scenarios. Though he's becoming more confident, this may be a lifelong personality trait he'll need managed.

Though he'd be fine with visiting kids that respected his boundaries, I don't believe a home with kids would be his vibe.

He can be a solo dog with ease, or fit into a home with respectful cats or dogs, though he likely won't engage.

He'll do best with a quiet lifestyle. A home with a human or 2 to give him all the love and attention.

Polard is a sweet and gentle guy. He's looking for a home that understands his sensitive personality.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Polard: is extremely affectionate—when I pick him up, he’s full of kisses. On the ground, he attaches closely to one person. With me, he follows everywhere but doesn’t jump up—he hesitates before being picked up but never shows aggression. He likes attention on his own terms—he thrives on affection but needs trust, so he shouldn’t be rushed. While he bonds closely with one person, he’s still friendly with others in the household and enjoys attention.

He’s neutral with other animals—my dogs try to engage him, but he calmly ignores them. He’s also fine with my cat. At work—since I bring him—he settles well. Once there, he picks a spot and watches me. If I move, he follows, but he’s learning to wait patiently, knowing I’ll return. He does great on car rides.

Polard is slow to trust new people. My coworkers offer treats, but he’s cautious. He’ll likely bond over time, but he’s loyal to his chosen person.

He’s becoming more playful—he now plays with toys. On walks, he stays close, attentive. He’s happy yet sassy—he once growled when I cleaned his bum, but it’s just self-assertion.

He doesn’t like being left alone for long. Initially, he was anxious if left, but he’s improving—he can handle short periods now, though he still prefers company. He even eats best when I’m near. If I’m beside him, he eats eagerly. If not, he waits.

House-training is progressing—he mostly goes outside, with occasional accidents. He definitely likes to clean his paws after, so watch out for rocks coming your way—lol.

At night, he cuddles at first, then sleeps under the bed. He prefers hard surfaces over dog beds.

He’s curious and happy, explores cautiously, and blossoms daily.

He prefers relationships that give him time to trust.

All in all, Polard will be a wonderful addition to a family that understands and appreciates the unique personality that a Pomeranian brings. He’s ready to offer loyalty, affection, and a bit of that Pomeranian charm to the right home.
