Meet Laura!
Laura is a beautiful black and white Pointer mix who has lived and survived outside in the elements for 8.5 years. She never knew a warm bed or a soft touch and gentle hand. She was rescued as part of a large-scale hoarding situation involving over 40 dogs from. She lived on a property with several drug users, who fed her every few weeks, and beat her on occasion. Laura lived in this environment her entire life. She was also forced to have puppies so that they could be sold for drug money. Because she spent her entire adult life in these conditions, she is a very shy and nervous girl who views people with a quiet, guarded caution. She needs a patient owner who understands her plight. She loves other dogs, and cats, and she walks well on a leash. She is housebroken. She is the perfect house guest.
As a senior survivor, Laura is a "project dog" who requires a specific kind of understanding. She is a true "dog’s dog" and finds her only sense of peace and security through the presence of other canines.
While her past has made her wary, Laura’s heart is not closed. With repeated time, effort, and immense patience, she does have the capacity to form a deep, meaningful connection with a human. She tends to be a "one-person dog," eventually choosing a single trusted soul to bond with once she feels completely secure. She is perfectly fine living alongside cats and children who understand her need for space and won't rush her. After eight years of struggle, Laura deserves a soft place to land—a home that asks nothing of her but to finally relax and enjoy the quiet life she was so long denied.
Laura is spayed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.
