Meet Duke — a.k.a. Porkchop or Meatball
This handsome boy is a 2-year-old English Pit Bull who has already survived more than most dogs ever should. And somehow, after everything hes been through, he still believes people are pretty darn wonderful.
In April 2025, Duke was hit by a car. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan tracked down his owner, and Duke was taken to a veterinarian who tried to save his leg. Sadly, the leg became severely infected. By the time it was finally amputated, the surgery was poorly done, leaving Duke with an incredibly difficult recovery.
Youd think that would be enough heartbreak for one dog.
But then came this summer.
Dukes owner had moved away and left him tied up alone in the backyard. Local police contacted the shelter.
And yet... Duke still loves people.
He didnt become bitter.
He didnt give up.
He didnt stop trusting.
He just kept being Duke.
Duke is:
A total people-lover
Dog-friendly
Great with kids (over 10)
Cat-friendly
A goofy, lovable cuddlebug
A master of making you laugh
House and kennel trained
And being a tripod? Duke doesnt seem to have gotten the memo that hes supposed to slow down.
He plays chase.
He wrestles with the resident dog.
He can go on short walks.
He can get down stairs more easily and prefers a little sling assistance going up.
And yes... this big boy can jump right up on the couch!
Then there are the little things that make Duke, well... Duke.
He snores.
He grunts when you scratch him in just the right spot.
He has the funniest little squeaky whine/bark. But hes got a big boy bark too.
Hes an absolute goofball.
He LOVES bones.
He loves tug-of-war.
He loves lounging outside like he pays the mortgage.
And despite being a big ol hunk of a boy, Duke has absolutely no idea that he is, in fact, a BIG BOY.
Living with kids 10 and up is best simply because he doesnt know his size, but he has done good supervised around younger kids.
Duke doesnt need someone to feel sorry for him. He needs someone to see him. To see past the missing leg.
He deserves a family who will make sure the rest of his story is filled with soft beds, belly rubs, squeaky noises, backyard lounging, tug-of-war, couch cuddles, and a whole lot of being loved.
Whos ready to show Porkchop...um Duke...that his best days are still ahead?
