Meet Benito: Part-Time Lap Dog, Full-Time Personality
Benito (aka Bennie) is a 2-year-old neutered little dude who has perfected the art of being both ridiculously sweet and just the right amount of punk. He is affectionate, social, hilarious, and genuinely very easy to have around — provided you remember one important rule:
Bennie does not get to make the rules.
He is opinionated. He has a Napoleon complex. He occasionally gets a little too big for his britches. But the beauty of Benito is that he doesn't actually need much to keep him on the straight and narrow. He is eager to please, takes correction well, and responds beautifully to clear boundaries.
If he decides he's feeling a little spicy, a quick correction and he's like, "Oh. Okay. My mistake." And then he's back to being the charming little dude everyone loves.
Because when Benito isn't busy testing the constitution, he's an absolute delight.
He is a professional lap warmer, loves attention, and thinks being passed around at the brewery like a communal emotional-support toy is basically the greatest honor imaginable. He LOVES people and lives for being included.
He also loves hand fighting and is surprisingly gentle about it. He understands that this is a game and keeps his play appropriate.
He's good in his crate. Good on leash. Good with dogs when appropriately managed. Good for baths, brushing, and nails. He's a little punk about the clippers and dryer, but that's nothing an experienced groomer can't navigate.
He has bitten before, which is why his boundaries matter. He can also resource guard if given the opportunity. Benito is not the dog for someone who wants to let their dog make all the decisions and hope for the best. But if you don't give him an inch to turn into a boundary-pushing little gremlin, he doesn't go looking for trouble. He's easily redirected, wants to please, and is remarkably straightforward to live with.
Benito's instruction manual is basically:
Give him structure.
Give him affection.
Don't negotiate with the tiny dictator.
Enjoy your dog!
We haven't had him around cats or other small animals, so that's still an unknown.
He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, preventative care, crate trained, leash savvy, people-friendly, dog-friendly with appropriate boundaries, and ready to find his very own person.
Benito is not complicated. He's just Benito. A sweet, sassy, hilarious little guy who wants to be your lap dog, your brewery buddy, your hand-fighting champion, and occasionally your personal challenge to see whether you're actually going to enforce the rules you just made.
And honestly? His trainer says he's pretty darn easy.
Bennie has so much love to give and is looking for a family that will cherish him, spoil him just a little, and promise that he'll never have to fend for himself again.
