I thought I was giving Alvin a place to stay for one week. I never imagined that, two years later, I'd be trying to find him a forever home with tears in my eyes.
Meet Alvin, my four-year-old handsome boy. He's friendly, energetic, and happiest when he's out on a walk, making new friends or chasing squirrels like it's his very important part-time job. People stop us all the time to tell him how cute he is. Little do they know, the sweetest thing about Alvin isn't his face - it's his heart.
He has a playful side that makes me laugh and a gentle, comforting side that makes even a difficult day feel a little lighter. Sometimes, just having him nearby is enough.
Two years ago, I agreed to care for Alvin for one week. But when that week ended, his previous owner never came back for him. Instead, I was told to take him to a shelter.
I couldn't do it. I looked at him and saw a little life that deserved to feel safe, wanted, and loved. So I kept him. For the last two years, I've cared for him, loved him, and shared my everyday life with him. He became far more than a dog I was looking after. He became my family.
Now, because of ongoing personal circumstances, I'm no longer able to give him the care and stability he deserves. It hurts to put that into words. I reached out to his previous owner again, hoping there might be another option, but he won't take Alvin back.
If love alone were enough to keep him, Alvin would never have to leave me.
But loving him also means thinking about what he needs, even when it breaks my heart. So I'm looking for someone who will love his silly squirrel chases, enjoy his company on quiet days, and make room for him in both their home and their heart.
Alvin has already had someone walk away from him. More than anything, I want his next home to be the one where he gets to stay.
If you can offer Alvin a loving, lasting home, please message me. I'd love to tell you more about him and find the right fit for this precious boy. If you can't adopt, please share his story - you may help him find the family he's waiting for.
He came to me for a week. He'll stay in my heart forever.
