LICI - IN FOSTER!

Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Fairfax, Virginia
April 30th
female, large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Lici is a shy little wallflower, and the big, noisy shelter world has been more than a bit overwhelming for her. While other dogs rush up for attention, Lici hangs back, peeking from behind furniture or gently backing away as if she’s saying, "I’m not ready yet... but I’m trying." With her wide eyes, soft ears, and cautious steps, she’s a dog who clearly wants to feel safe—she just hasn’t learned how to trust that yet. If you speak "gentle encouragement" and "slow patience," Lici will understand you perfectly. But here’s the wonderful part: when another dog enters the picture, Lici’s whole world brightens. She vocalizes, wags, and even musters the courage to follow them around, her curiosity overcoming her fear. With a confident, social dog by her side, she seems to whisper, "Okay... maybe this is safe." Toys don’t interest her yet, and the shelter stress keeps her too tense to enjoy treats, but that just means she’s waiting for the right environment—quiet, steady, and full of kindness—to help her blossom.

Lici isn’t looking for a fast-paced life or constant attention. She’s looking for a person who understands timid souls, a home that moves gently, and ideally a friendly resident dog who can show her the ropes. With time, patience, and a little training, Lici has every chance to grow into a brave, loving companion. If you’ve got a soft spot for the underdog and the heart to help a fearful pup flourish, Lici just might be your girl.

Lici is currently in a foster home. If you’d like to visit with her to hopefully adopt, please include her name in your email so we can coordinate to have her back at the Shelter! Our email address is: animalservices@fairfaxcounty.gov

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
