DESCRIPTION

Meet Chance, our sweet little delicate lovebug.

Chance is just over a year old, about 10 pounds, and has already survived more than any little dog should.
After his backyard breeder died, a family member dumped him at a high-kill shelter down South. He was so severely neglected and matted that you could not even see his face. We had him anesthetized, completely shaved, fully vetted, vaccinated and neutered.Since then, Chance has been decompressing in a wonderful foster home, where the sweet, funny little dog underneath all that neglect is finally starting to emerge.

Chance deeply wants to trust people, but he is still learning that humans can be gentle and kind. Because of his past, he may initially become anxious about being touched or picked up. Quick movements can startle him, and when overwhelmed, he may freeze, bury his face in the couch or quietly move away.
But give him patience, softness and time, and you can actually watch him begin to relax.

And he has already come SO far.

Chance now takes treats from people once he feels comfortable, loves toys, and will even whine when he wants someone to play with him. He enjoys enrichment toys, squeakers, crinkle toys, rope toys and tug and he has a funny little habit of stealing socks, so his foster family made him his very own sock toy.

He has plenty of personality, too. One of his sweetest little quirks is what he does with his blankey. If you rest your hand next to him, Chance will use his nose to push and nudge his blanket over your hand, almost as if he's trying to tuck it in and bury it beneath his blankey. We have no idea where this adorable little habit came from, but it makes his foster family laugh every time.

He also likes inspecting the refrigerator when it opens, checking out whatever you're drinking and howling at sirens.

Chance was one of seven surrendered "designer" poodles who had never experienced grass under their feet or learned how to walk on a leash. His foster mom is slowly introducing him to the outdoors, and he is beginning to discover just how much fun being a dog can be.

He is not fully housebroken yet, but he is completely pee-pad trained. He is also fully crate trained, sleeps quietly through the night and views his crate as a safe space when he feels overwhelmed.

Leash walking is still very new to him, but with patience and encouragement, we are confident he will get there.

When visitors come over, Chance is quiet and reserved. He may freeze or move away if someone reaches for him too quickly, but he does NOT bark, growl or behave aggressively. With patience and slow movements, he will even take treats from new people.
What Chance loves most is simply being near the humans he trusts. He enjoys curling up beside his foster family, playing with his toys, following them from room to room and quietly watching whatever they are doing.

For a little dog who spent his first year knowing so little kindness, those simple moments mean everything.

Chance needs a calm, patient home with gentle people who will let him move at his own pace and celebrate every little victory along the way.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and generally a healthy little boy.

If you've ever wanted to truly change the life of a rescued dog...

This is your Chance.
