Bones arrived in late July from a high kill shelter at code red and we're so happy to know this cat loving cool guy!
Bones is fully housebroken, and is pretty good in his crate - although his foster reports that he will bark a little but then he settles in to rest. His foster continues to work with him by giving him lots of short stints in the crate to increase his tolerance. On leash, Bones can be timid and is working on building his confidence. He walks well on a leash with direction (he sometimes will go from side to side if not being directed). If he gets spooked by a noise, he may pull a little to rush back home. Time and patience, along with building his confidence, will certainly help him in his leash training. Bones is still trying to figure out how to play, and doesn't quite understand the concept of toys.
When someone new visits his foster home, Bones will stay by a safe spot, such as the couch or his dog bed. His foster will usually have guests wait a bit while talking near him so he can get comfortable with the sound of a new voice. After some time, they will engage him by talking to him and he will usually start wagging his tail and enjoy some pets. Once guests have been in the house for awhile, he becomes braver and will often come with me over to them to sniff and get some attention. As he gains confidence and becomes more comfortable, he warms up more quickly. Right now, he tends to warm up to women quicker than men.
On any given day, Bones loves to lay next to you on the couch, patiently waiting to receive some affection. He will gently give you kisses on your arms to let you know how content he is with you in a safe space. In the morning when you first get up, he is so excited he whines a little and runs to you with his tail wagging. He is so very gentle when taking treats.
Bones is neutered and is UTD on his vaccinations.
We always ask our fosters for any additional information they would like to share, and his current foster was more than happy to gush about him: "Bones is a gentle, wonderful boy who will need time, patience, and a calm environment to settle into his new home. He responds beautifully to calm direction, and even in the short time we've had him, he has made steady progress in gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable in his surroundings.
Bones is beginning to show his sweet personality. He gets excited when you talk to him or call him over, and he loves running with my pup and following along to see what he's up to. Once he settles in, Bones enjoys attention and simply being near you. When he first arrived, he was too nervous to eat or drink while we were in the room. Now, he is drinking comfortably with us nearby and is becoming more relaxed about eating as well.
Bones is an amazing boy with so much potential. With time, patience, and a loving home, we know he will continue to blossom into the wonderful companion he is meant to be."
