Meet Sammy

Sammy is a 3-year-old Lhasa mix weighing in at about 17 pounds, with a stunning gray, silver, and cream coat that makes him just as beautiful as he is unique. He joined Dogworks in March 2025 after a defunct breeder shut down, and he’s been learning what it means to be a loved companion ever since.

Sammy is a quiet, independent little guy who prefers to take life at his own pace. He isn’t the type to jump into new situations or new relationships—instead, he likes to observe from a distance and warm up on his own terms. Once he trusts you, though, you’ll be rewarded with his sweet morning greetings and his loyal presence (especially if you happen to have something tasty—he loves cheese!).

Sammy thrives in a calm, understanding home. He does best with patient adults who will give him the time and space he needs to feel safe. He tends to bond more quickly with male humans, though he can build trust with women over time as well. Because he gains confidence from other dogs, he will require a home with at least one friendly canine companion. A fenced yard is also a must, as he enjoys spending time outdoors when the weather is nice.

While Sammy can be playful—especially when chasing around with other dogs—he’s equally happy lounging on the couch for a cozy nap. He’s not a cuddler and likely never will be, but he shows his affection in his own quiet, steady ways.

Sammy can be fearful of new people, noises, and experiences, and in the past he has reacted by hiding or avoiding situations. He has made great progress, and while he has occasionally nipped when very scared, this behavior has become rare. With continued patience and a predictable routine, he will keep gaining confidence.

He is potty trained, does well with other dogs, and is generally low-key during the day. He isn’t leash-trained yet and will need a home committed to helping him build that skill over time.

Sammy’s ideal home:
• Another friendly dog in the home
• A fenced yard
• Patient, understanding adults
• Older, respectful children (if any)
• A calm environment where he can continue to grow at his own pace

Sammy may not be the life-of-the-party type, but for the right person, he will be a quiet, loyal companion who watches over his home (and your snacks!) with gentle devotion.
