Monday: 6 y/o spayed female black Lab, 70 lbs
Background:
Mondays owner got her as a puppy from an AKC breeder. Recent owner health issues and Mondays resource contention with the small dogs in the home has caused the owner to sadly realize that even though she loves Monday dearly, all would be better off with Monday in a loving new home.
Mondays owner says:
Monday is a beautiful 6 year old pure bred spayed black Lab. She was born October 12, 2019 and we got her on December 7 of that year. She is AKC but I never registered her. She is an indoor dog and is housebroken. She loves to go outside but usually only wants to stay out for a short amount of time.
She gets very excited when we get company. She has multiple toys which she carries around like a pacifier whenever she is excited or when visitors first arrive.....she will rarely give them to you. If you throw her ball or a toy, she will fetch but she is not great about bringing them back to you...unless you have a treat in hand. Very food motivated.
She goes in and out of her crate during the day and night. She will get in her crate on command (in your crate) but I generally dont put her in her crate unless there are workers coming to the house.
She has been allowed to sleep on one of the sofas that I have covered and the recliner which I cover with a blanket at night so would need to be trained if that is not allowed in her new home. During the night she takes turns sleeping in her crate, the floor, the sofa or the chair. She is always in her crate in the morning when I get up. It is her safe place.
She would play often every day with one of the Yorkies but unfortunately, on three different occasions she got into it with that same Yorkie over a piece of food, grabbing her by the neck and shaking her. She loves to sit on the sofa and get her tummy rubbed but sometimes if a Yorkie is within 8 she gives them the side eye and then I tell her no and make her look at me; she has occasionally snarled at the other dog. While she is usually a calm, friendly dog, she is a resource guarder with the Yorkies.
She gets 1.25 cups of Purina Pro Plan Large Breed High Protein Chicken and Rice Dry Dog Food for breakfast with a little scrambled egg on top and 1.25 cups for dinner with a little ground chicken on top. (if no rice or chicken on top, then 1.5 cups each meal.) She is used to eating between 7:00-8:00 every morning and around 3:00 in the afternoon. I put her food down but she cannot eat until I say OK. The routine has been that I let the little dogs outside and she runs around inside with a toy in her mouth while I fix the food bowls. (She generally does not want to go out until after she eats but then she wants to go right out after she eats.) I usually give her a Full Moon Chicken Fillet between 11:00-12:00 every day. For behavior treats, she gets small bites of different types of dog jerky, natural treats, carrot or apple.
Besides running around a large back yard, she is walked by a dog walker twice a week. She does well on a leash. She is not reactionary to other dogs she sees on her walks. She would love to be walked daily but I have not been up to it, due to surgeries.
Although she is a Lab, she doesnt like the water and usually runs into the house when you turn on the hose. It may be because when she was a puppy, she fell into the jacuzzi (it wasnt on but it scared her). She is also scared of fireworks. She does not like her paws touched although the few times shes gone to the groomer theyve been able to clip her nails without a problem. She howls at sirens.
Her only bad habits: She likes to drink out of the toilet if you leave the lid up, she has a thing for Kleenex and paper towels, and she counter surfs (I keep all food away from the edge shes quick) My husband trained her to sit on the mat in the kitchen when we are cooking so she is out of the way but the mat is in front of the sink so shes technically still in the way.
Though not recently, she used to attend doggie daycare for socialization. Theyve always given us good reports about how great she is and how well she gets along with the other dogs. Most, but not all, of those dogs were her size.
Monday is a Love but needs an experienced Lab owner who can give her the attention, exercise, and training that she needs.
Monday's Rescue Rep says:
Monday is a sweet loving girl who will make a great companion. She has lived with an adult man and woman and a teenager. Monday warmed up to me quickly, asking for belly rubs. Although Monday resource guards from the other dogs in the home, she was fine with me taking food, toys, and high value treats away from her.
We recommend that Monday be the only pet in the home and any kids in the home be older. Monday walks well on leash using a head halter. She attended obedience training classes when she was younger and knows many commands.
Medical Information:
Monday is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is on preventatives. She has a small sebaceous cyst on her right side. Monday is in good health and has had regular vet care throughout her life.
