ELLIE

Labrador Retriever, Catahoula Leopard Dog
🇺🇸
San Francisco, California
August 4th
female, medium, young

DESCRIPTION

Ellie, 4 yo lab/catahoula mix, 50lbs, spayed is available to Adopt/or Foster

Background
Ellie is an almost 4-year-old Labrador/Catahoula mix who has been with her family since she was a puppy. Making the decision to rehome her has been incredibly difficult, but increasing work demands and the medical needs of another resident dog have left them unable to give Ellie the time, exercise, and attention she deserves. They are hoping to find her a home where she can continue to thrive and be an active part of the family.

What Ellie's Owners Say
Ellie is a Labrador/Catahoula mix looking for her forever home. She has a loving, friendly personality and plenty of energy, making her a great companion for an active family or someone who enjoys spending time outdoors.

Shes fully house-trained and gets along wonderfully with kids, cats, and other dogs. While shes happy to be around other dogs, shes independent and doesnt pay them much mind, making her an easygoing companion in multi-pet homes. If youre looking for a loyal, affectionate dog with a big heart, she could be the perfect fit for your family.

What Ellie's Rescue Rep Says
Ellie is a beautiful Lab/Catahoula mix with a striking merle coat and a sweet, gentle personality. She enjoys meeting new people and dogs and greets them with enthusiasm, although she can be a little shy when left alone with someone she doesn't know. She may jump up in excitement when saying hello, but she responds well to correction and settles quickly.

Ellie already knows several basic commands, including sit, wait, stay, and come. She's highly food-motivated, making her an excellent candidate for continued positive reinforcement training. She also loves puzzle toys and solves them with impressive speed, showing she enjoys mental challenges as much as physical activity.

While Ellie is affectionate, she's not overly cuddly and prefers affection on her own terms. She'll happily come over for treats and allows handling all over her body, but if she's had enough petting, she'll simply move away rather than react negatively.

Ellie is both house-trained and crate-trained. She may bark briefly when first crated or when she hears unfamiliar noises around the house, but she settles down quickly. She has excellent manners around food and shows no signs of resource guarding.

On walks, Ellie is eager to explore and can pull strongly on leash, particularly when she spots other dogs. She may bark and pull to greet them, but her behavior is driven by excitement rather than aggression. She currently lives with a younger Golden Retriever and a resident cat and does well with both, although she prefers companionship over playtime with other dogs.

Ellie will thrive in a home that can provide daily exercise, mental enrichment, and consistent structure. A securely fenced yard where she can run and explore would be ideal, and she'll make a wonderful partner for outdoor adventures like hiking, running, or swimming.

She could do well as an only dog or with another respectful canine companion, and she's also comfortable living with cats.

Because of her enthusiasm when greeting people, a home with older children would be the best fit. Most importantly, Ellie is looking for adopters who won't leave her alone for long periods and who will include her as an active member of the family. With regular exercise, continued training, and plenty of attention, Ellie will reward her new family with loyalty and years of devoted friendship.

Medical:
Ellie is up to date on vaccines and will be getting heartworm tested soon. She was recently treated for a fungal infection affecting her ears and skin.

Location: Fairfield
