Our process begins with an application. If we believe it may be a good match, we will reach out to schedule a phone interview, followed by a video call with the foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and veterinary reference checks, are required to complete the adoption process. Once approved, the dog will be placed on the next available transport, which runs every few weeks and is included in the adoption donation. If you are not able to welcome a dog until a later date, please wait to apply until that time.

We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to help these dogs find homes. If you are not serious about moving forward with the adoption process, please do not apply. Meet Otis — aka Butter, as he’s lovingly called by his foster mom — the kind of puppy who will melt into you like he’s been yours forever. At 14 weeks old, this Lab/Pit mix already has that soft, squishy, snuggly presence that makes you wonder how you ever lived without him. With his adorable brown and green eyes and gentle, loving nature, Otis isn’t just cute — he’s the total package. He’s being fostered in Austin, Texas and is expected to grow into a large, lovable dog.

Otis (Butter) is available for adoption out-of-state. Transport can be arranged for approved adopters and is included in the adoption donation. Our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we’ll reach out to coordinate a phone interview, followed by a video call with his foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and vet reference checks, are required to complete the process.

Otis and his siblings came into rescue dealing with a skin condition that caused some hair loss, but they’ve fully recovered and are now just in the healing phase while their coats grow back in. It doesn’t slow him down one bit — and before long, his full, handsome coat will be back.

Butter is the perfect mix of playful and easygoing. He enjoys playing like any puppy, but he’s not a wild child — he has a naturally calm, thoughtful way about him. He checks in with his people, happily follows you from room to room, and settles down quickly once the fun is over. His favorite activities are simple: getting pets, soaking up affection, and stretching out in a warm sunny spot for a nap.

He’s wonderful with other dogs and has a relaxed, friendly play style. He hasn’t been around cats or children yet, but his gentle, easygoing temperament suggests he could do well in a home with respectful kids who understand how to interact with a puppy.

For such a young pup, Butter is already impressively tuned in. He listens well, is starting to pick up on routines, and shows a natural desire to please. Like any puppy, he’s still working on house training and will need a family committed to consistency and structure as he continues to learn. He’ll also need guidance with leash training and exposure to the world to help him grow into a confident adult.

Butter has a slightly lower-key energy compared to many puppies — he’s playful when it’s time to play, but he really shines in those quiet, cuddly moments. He’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh one minute and then be fast asleep in your lap the next. A true Velcro pup in the making, he just wants to be close to his people.

He’ll do best in a home where someone is around more often than not, especially during this stage of his life when he’s still learning and building confidence. With the right guidance, Butter is going to grow into an incredibly loyal, loving companion.

We expect Otis to grow into a large dog once fully grown, and he’ll need a family ready to embrace both his size and his big, soft heart.
