My name is Duke, and I'm only six months old, Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuhua mix weighing about 11 lbs full of love and joy.

I'm neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and healthy, but the thing I want most isn't found in a medical chart.
Its found in a family...
a lap...
a warm voice...
a safe place to rest my head.

I am traveling from Southern California to live with my foster family in Ridgefield, WA by end of June. I also can travel to Vancouver, BC if there is a potential adopter for me. My adoption fee is $800USD

Here is my story:

I don't remember much about the beginning of my life, but I do remember being scared.

I remember being with my mom and my brothers and sisters. They were all I knew. We stayed close together because the world felt big and confusing. Then one day, we ended up in a loud place with concrete floors, barking dogs, and people walking past our kennel every day.

I didn't understand what I had done wrong.

I would press my little face against the kennel door and watch people come and go. Sometimes they would smile at me. Sometimes they wouldn't even look. Every night I curled up next to my family and wondered if anyone would ever want a little puppy like me.

The shelter was a scary place for a baby. I heard the grown-ups talking about how full it was. I didn't know what that meant, but I knew everyone seemed worried.

Then one day, everything changed.

Someone looked at me and saw more than just another shelter puppy. They saw a life worth saving.

They opened the kennel door, picked me up, and for the first time in a long time, I felt safe.

Since then, I've learned that people can be kind.

I've learned that belly rubs are amazing. That toys are meant to be chased. That other dogs can be best friends. That children give wonderful hugs. And that falling asleep beside someone who loves you is the best feeling in the world.

I don't spend much time thinking about the shelter anymore.

I spend my days playing, exploring, wagging my tail, and dreaming about my future family.

Sometimes I wonder what they're doing right now.
