Meet Bentley!
2-Year-Old • 15-Pound Puppy Mill Survivor
Bentley is the kind of dog who will teach you that the best things are worth waiting for.
Bentley and his brother Snoopy originally came into rescue when they were just six months old after being born and raised in a puppy mill. They were adopted by a loving older couple who gave them the home and love they deserved. Sadly, their mom passed away suddenly, and their dad is now living with his daughter, bringing Bentley and Snoopy back into rescue at two years old and searching for their next forever home.
Bentley is the more timid and slower-to-warm-up of the two. When he first meets you or enters a new environment, he's likely to hang back and take everything in. He needs someone who isn't going to rush him or expect him to immediately be confident.
Give him a week of patience, reassurance, and lots of snuggles, and you'll start seeing a completely different Bentley.
Once he feels safe, this 15-pound little guy starts trotting around the yard, seeking attention, enjoying affection, and letting his sweet personality shine through. He's very quiet, mild-mannered, gentle, and easygoing.
We think Bentley would especially benefit from having another calm, confident dog in his forever home. Having a canine friend to follow and learn from could help him tremendously as he continues building his confidence. That said, we also think the right person could help him blossom with nothing more than patience, consistency, and a whole lot of cuddling.
Bentley does well with other dogs and cats. He's learning to walk on a leash, too, although this is still relatively new to him.
Bentley isn't looking for someone who expects him to be brave overnight. He's looking for someone who will let him take his time, reassure him that he's safe, and celebrate every little step forward.
There is something incredibly special about watching a shy dog finally realize that he is safe, loved, and home. Bentley just needs someone willing to give him the time to get there. And once he does, you're going to discover a sweet little dog who trot-trot-trots around the yard, seeks you out for attention, and lets that wonderful personality shine.
As with all of our adoptable dogs, Bentley will go home with a collar, leash, toy, and two bowls, along with his current food. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and medical care. His adoption fee is $600, which is tax-deductible and helps us continue rescuing dogs in need.
If you're the patient person who doesn't mind earning a dog's trust and wants the privilege of watching him blossom, Bentley may be the boy you've been waiting for.
