There are a lot of ways to survive. You can be the biggest. You can be the strongest. You can be the loudest. Or...you can be Sandra Diaz-Twine. If you've ever watched Survivor, you know exactly what we're talking about. Sandra built a legendary career proving that you should never underestimate the smallest contestant. And our little Sandra seems to have read the script. She may be the smallest member of the Tulsa tribe, but someone forgot to tell her that she's supposed to act like it. Sandra lives life with the confidence of a puppy approximately three times her current size. She'll happily march into the middle of puppy playtime, fully convinced she belongs in charge, and somehow everyone just...accepts it. It's impressive, really. Sandra isn't trying to be the biggest puppy in the litter. She doesn't need to be. She's already figured out what the real Survivor legends know. Heart beats size every single time. And if we're being honest...We're all a little obsessed with this tiny powerhouse.
Sandra Diaz-Twine is a 6-week-old, 9-pound female Great Pyrenees/potential Anatolian Shepherd mix. Mom certainly looks like a purebred Great Pyrenees, but Dad has remained one of rescue's greatest unsolved mysteries. Somewhere out there he's living his best life, blissfully unaware that rescue volunteers are still trying to figure out who he is. Until he decides to reveal himself at the reunion show, "potential Anatolian Shepherd mix" is the best answer we've got. Sandra came to rescue alongside her incredible mama, Carolyn, and all of her siblings after they found themselves abandoned with nowhere safe to go. Thankfully, a kind-hearted Samaritan stepped in and refused to let this little tribe face the world alone. The challenge? As the puppies grew, there was growing concern that Carolyn's milk supply was drying up, and everyone worried the babies simply weren't getting enough to eat. That's when our village assembled. Fosters opened their homes. Volunteers rearranged their lives. Transporters hit the road. Formula appeared by the can. Bottles were filled around the clock. Sleep became optional. Coffee became mandatory. It truly took an incredible team of people working together to make sure this little family had everything they needed. And then, once Carolyn finally realized she and her babies were safe...she got right back to being the phenomenal mama she'd always been. With such a large litter, the puppies still needed supplemental bottles to help fill all those hungry little bellies, but together this village made sure these puppies had the opportunity to thrive. Now, Sandra currently weighs 9 pounds, officially making her the smallest puppy in the Tulsa tribe. Before you start thinking she's going to stay pocket-sized forever, we'd like to gently remind you that Great Pyrenees apparently consider "small" to be a temporary personality trait. Our best guess is that Sandra will eventually grow into a 70-80 pound gentle giant...give or take. We know, it's hard to reconcile "currently the smallest puppy" with "future walking polar bear," but that's the magic of puppy math. One thing we don't have to guess, though, is that Sandra has already proven size means absolutely nothing. She may be the smallest puppy in the litter today, but she's got enough personality, determination, and heart packed into those fluffy little paws to rival dogs twice her size. Honestly? That seems perfectly on-brand for a puppy named Sandra Diaz-Twine.
When it comes to other dogs, Sandra has absolutely zero concerns. She's convinced everyone is here to have a good time, and so far, the resident "aunties," Tsu and Flora, have happily agreed. She loves playing with them, bouncing around like she's their equal despite being considerably smaller, and generally assumes every dog she meets is ready to join her latest adventure. Cats remain one of the few cast members she hasn't met yet, but knowing Sandra, we're fairly certain she'd march right over and introduce herself with the confidence of someone who's never once questioned a life decision. The first time Sandra encountered the wonderfully enthusiastic chaos that accompanies kids meeting puppies, she understandably paused to evaluate the situation. After all, imagine being six weeks old and suddenly hearing tiny humans squealing like Jeff Probst just announced the loved ones' visit. But once she realized those noisy little humans came equipped with pets, cuddles, belly rubs, and an unlimited supply of attention? Game over. Sandra became a regular member of the group, happily following the kids around like she'd been part of their alliance from day one. Whether they were sitting on the floor, handing out affection, or simply existing within petting distance, Sandra wanted in. Honestly, for the smallest contestant on the island...Her social game is absolutely legendary.
Sandra's energy level sits around a 5 out of 10, but don't let that fool you. That number comes with an asterisk. When Sandra decides it's time to play, she can crank it up to a solid 7 without breaking a sweat. She becomes a tiny, fluffy pinball, bouncing from one adventure to the next with the confidence of someone who firmly believes she's the fastest, strongest, and most athletic contestant on the island. Watching Sandra play is like watching popcorn in a microwave—you know something entertaining is about to happen, you just aren't entirely sure where she'll pop up next. And before you know it, she's curled up in your lap, soaking in every ounce of affection you have to offer, looking like the sweetest, most innocent little angel to ever exist.
Now, while she carries herself like she's already negotiated three alliances, won two immunity challenges, and has a retirement plan...she is only six weeks old currently. Like every Survivor contestant, Sandra still has a few challenges to conquer. Potty training is one of the big ones. Right now she's just beginning to figure out that humans have some very specific—and frankly rather dramatic—opinions about where bathrooms belong. Leash training promises to be equally entertaining. Sandra has enough confidence to believe she knows exactly where the walk should go...she just hasn't quite figured out what the leash is for yet. Basic obedience is another adventure you'll take together. Sandra is a smart little cookie, but she's also a livestock guardian mix, which means she may occasionally confuse "obedience" with "opening negotiations." You'll say, "Come!" Sandra may counter with, "Counteroffer...how about you come over here instead?" The good news is she's incredibly bright. With positive reinforcement, consistency, patience, and plenty of encouragement, she'll grow into a wonderful partner. Socialization is one of the most important reward challenges you'll ever complete together. Sandra already has a wonderfully confident personality, but continuing to introduce her to friendly people, polite dogs, different environments, new sounds, car rides, surfaces, and all of life's everyday adventures will help her become the calm, well-rounded adult she's meant to be. The goal isn't to take away her spunky personality—we love that about her. It's simply helping her learn that the world is full of exciting experiences she can tackle with confidence.
Well...If you've made it this far, we'd like to congratulate you. Sandra has successfully played her social game. You started this profile thinking, "I'm just going to read about a puppy," and now you are trying to figure out how to convince your partner that she belongs with you. So, if you've decided Sandra is the Sole Survivor of your heart, it's time for your first challenge. Thankfully, production has gone easy on you. No balancing on tiny poles. No solving impossible puzzles. No eating mystery insects while Jeff Probst stares at you encouragingly. Instead, your challenge is far more terrifying...Fill out an adoption application. Once you've completed it, we'll send your application to Sandra's foster family so they can review it. Around here, we aren't looking for whoever clicks "Submit" at Olympic speed. We're looking for Sandra's forever family—the people who are going to love her through puppy antics, teenage stubbornness, and many, many years of fluffy greatness.
