DESCRIPTION

Meet Bill - a joyful, lovable Great Pyrenees pup who came to rescue along with his brother Murray, and yes, they were born on Groundhog Day! In the spirit of their namesake Bill Murray, this boy has serious star quality and a personality that lights up every room he wanders into. Bill arrived as an owner surrender from a backyard breeder in Virginia, and he is ready to find his furever home! He is housebroken and crate trained, and he already has "sit" and "down" solid. Leash manners are a work in progress, but he's a smart boy and is coming right along. His activity level is classic puppy: very busy, and then crashed out completely - the kind of full-throttle-to-floor-nap cycle that is equal parts entertaining and endearing.

Bill has been fostered alongside dogs of all sizes, energy levels, and genders, and he has loved every single one of them. He is constantly meeting new people and greets everyone like a long-lost friend. He would do wonderfully with children of any age, and while he hasn't shared space with cats directly, he listens well, so he should be fine with them. He has been around chickens and showed no interest in them whatsoever.

Now, for the highlight reel: Bill is a water dog through and through. He loves to play in shallow water, and his signature move is what his foster lovingly calls "submarining" - dunking his head completely below the surface of the lake, just because he can. He also adores squeaky toys, goes wild for toys he can shred, and will happily gnaw on a Yak Milk chew for a good long while. He is beautifully behaved in the car and prefers to stretch out on the floor indoors rather than claim the furniture. He isn't much of a barker (yet), and while he loves a good hole that someone else has already started, he hasn't shown any digging ambition of his own.

Bill does best with a dog companion - ideally an older one who can serve as a good role model as he continues to grow up. He has been raised in a pack and truly thrives with canine friends around. He will also need a 5-foot securely fenced yard to keep his adventures safely contained. If you have a fenced yard, a furry friend for him to pal around with, and access to a kiddie pool or water source, Bill just might be your guy!

Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted.

Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicants ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority.
