Venus - German Shepherd Dog and Labrador Retriever Dog for Adoption in Stephenville, Texas

Venus came to us as an owner surrender with her siblings after their previous family was no longer able to care for them. While all of the Planet Puppies have had a difficult time adjusting to shelter life, Venus has struggled the most. She is by far the most fearful of the group and is still learning that people and the world around her aren't as scary as they seem.
Venus has made some progress since arriving, but she still has a long way to go. She will need an exceptionally patient, understanding family who is willing to let her adjust at her own pace. Building her trust will take time, and her future family should be prepared for the possibility that it may take weeks or even months before she truly begins to feel comfortable. A calm, quiet home with a consistent routine would be ideal for helping her gain confidence.
Venus is dog-friendly and may benefit from having a calm, confident canine companion to help show her the ropes. However, like her siblings, she has shown some resource guarding tendencies around food, so separate feeding areas and positive reinforcement training will be important.
Like any young puppy, Venus will also need patience and consistency with potty training, leash training, and learning household manners. Because she is so fearful, training should be approached gently, with plenty of encouragement and absolutely no rushing or forcing her into situations that make her uncomfortable.
Venus isn't going to be the puppy who immediately runs up to greet you with a wagging tail and kisses, but that doesn't mean she isn't deserving of just as much love. She simply needs someone willing to meet her where she is and celebrate even the smallest victories along the way.
Venus has received 2 of her 3 DHPP vaccinations, a microchip, and has started dewormer. Her spay will be scheduled at the time of adoption.
Venus needs more than just a home. She needs someone who will give her the time, patience, and understanding to finally feel safe. Watching this frightened little girl slowly learn to trust and come out of her shell will make every bit of patience worthwhile!
