Big Mac is a 2-year-old, 55 pound German Shepherd mix with a big heart and a heartbreaking story.

Big Mac got his funny name because he survived near a McDonald’s, doing whatever he could just to make it through another day. He would walk up to parked cars and look through their windows, hoping that someone inside might notice him. He searched people’s eyes for kindness and watched every hand passing by, wondering whether it would reach out to pet him, offer him food, or finally lead him somewhere safe. Some people pushed him away. Some ignored him. Some gave him a small piece of food and continued on their way. But no one gave him what he wanted most — a safe place to call home. In the scorching heat, the bitter cold, and the pouring rain, Big Mac fell asleep alone and woke up alone. Every day, he approached new people and new cars with the same hope: maybe this time, someone would open the door and say, “Come with me. You are safe now.”

But that day never came. Despite everything he has been through, Big Mac has not lost his trust in people. He is affectionate, gentle, kind, and incredibly loving. He is friendly with children and other dogs. He has not yet been tested with cats. Big Mac is a wonderful boy who has spent far too long looking through other people’s windows, hoping to be noticed. Now he needs a door that will finally open for him. He needs a family, a warm bed, gentle hands, love, and the security of knowing that he will never have to sleep alone outside again. Big Mac does not need much. He only needs someone to look into his eyes, reach out a hand, and finally choose him.
