Daysha - German Shepherd Dog Dog for Adoption in Bellingham, Washington

Hi, my name is Daysha! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:

-Personality: Independent, lazy, a little bit dramatic, loyal, affectionate
-Can Live with Kids: May be okay with dog-savvy kids ages 14+ who will respect her space. Up to counselor's discretion.
-Can Live with Cats: Yes, has reportedly lived with cats in the past and did just fine. Will need SLOW and STRUCTURED introductions to ensure everyone gets along.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, may do well with a well-socialized dog of similar size. Initial introductions done here at WHS.
-Can do Apartment Living: No. Needs a home with a yard.
-Potty Trained: Yes
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: May be required to attend one private lesson depending on adopter experience.
-Energy Level: Low
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No

Additional Information: Daysha is a classic GSD - independent, stubborn, and a little aloof. It's her way or the highway, but luckily all she really wants to do is take naps on the porch. Daysha was surrendered to the shelter at no fault of her own. Her elderly owners were moving and experiencing some health issues, which was making it difficult to care for the multiple animals they had. From what they told us, it sounds like Daysha was an "indoor/outdoor dog" who spent all her time on the property where she lived. Daysha is used to being cared for by one person, and will likely bond strongly to her owner. Her perfect match is probably a single person or couple who live on some property and spend most of their time at home. As you can see, Daysha is a bit overweight and needs some help shedding a few pounds. She will need to be on a special diet and get plenty of exercise in her new home to ensure she's feeling (and looking) her best. GSD experience is not required for adoption, but breed knowledge is a plus!
