Prom Queen: The Sweetheart With the Soulful Eyes
Prom Queen is a 3–4 year old, 17 lb long-haired Dachshund who swept into rescue and immediately charmed every volunteer she met. With her soft coat, gentle personality, and deeply expressive eyes, Queen has the kind of presence that quietly steals hearts. She’s affectionate without being demanding and has perfected the art of being both a loyal companion and an easy houseguest.
Queen is a happy, confident, and wonderfully goofy little dog who loves being close to her people. She’s the definition of a velcro dog, happily following you from room to room, nudging your hand for pets, and soaking up every ear scratch and belly rub she can get. One of her foster’s favorite things about her is the way she’ll lie in your lap, slowly tilt her head upward, and look directly into your eyes as if she’s trying to tell you how much she trusts you.
Velcro Dog Energy... With Excellent Manners
Queen absolutely loves companionship and would happily spend most of the day near her favorite humans. At the same time, she’s wonderfully balanced and perfectly capable of relaxing independently when her people are busy. During the day, she alternates between napping on her blanket, relaxing in her crate, following her humans around the house, and sunbathing in the yard while happily sniffing around.
Breakfast is served at 7:30 AM, and she becomes especially enthusiastic when wet food is mixed into her kibble. In fact, hearing wet food being prepared sends her into adorable little zoomies and “wet food dances” that never fail to make people laugh. Dinner is served around 5 PM, followed by relaxing evenings and one final walk before bedtime.
Gentle, Quiet, and Easy to Live With
Queen is very much a couch potato at heart. She enjoys her walks and is always happy to head outside, but her favorite activity is curling up beside her people during a movie or lounging peacefully nearby. She typically goes on two to three walks a day and walks best on a no-pull harness. If she spots a squirrel or another dog, she may briefly pull with excitement, but she redirects easily and responds very well to guidance.
At home, Queen is wonderfully easy to live with. She is fully housetrained, crate-trained, and trustworthy with free roam privileges. Although she loves cuddling with her humans at bedtime, she happily settles into her crate and sleeps soundly through the night. She rarely barks, doesn’t chew furniture, and has shown herself to be a quiet, gentle soul overall.
She also has lovely manners with children and formed a particularly close bond with a 10-year-old in her foster home. Queen is affectionate and gentle. One especially charming thing about her is how she asks to be picked up — when someone bends down toward her, she’ll stand up on her hind legs to signal that she wants to be lifted into their arms.
Why Everyone Falls for Queen
What makes Queen so unforgettable is her resilience and her capacity for trust. She has a softness about her that makes people instantly want to protect her, and once she bonds with you, she gives her whole heart. Whether she’s curled in your lap, trotting happily on a walk, or quietly watching you with those soulful eyes, Prom Queen has a way of making everyday life feel warmer and more full of love.
