Meet Drew
Drew is a tiny one year old boy who weighs just 17 pounds, and his little body holds a very big heart.
Drew and Bryan are not brothers, but they share something incredibly special. Somewhere along the way, these two young dogs found each other, and they have formed a very strong bond. When the world feels overwhelming, they turn to one another for comfort and reassurance. Because of that connection, we are looking for a home where Drew and Bryan can stay together.
Their story is heartbreaking. They were dumped at a high kill shelter by the people who were supposed to care for them. Their owners couldn't get out of there fast enough, leaving these two tiny, frightened dogs behind.
We don't know exactly what Drew experienced before coming into rescue. We do know that he is very afraid of people, particularly when someone tries to touch him. If a hand reaches toward him, Drew may jump backward in fright. His reaction makes us wonder if he may have experienced mistreatment in his past, although we cannot know for certain what happened to him.
But Drew isn't a lost cause. Not even close.
In fact, there are some very encouraging signs that tell us Drew wants to trust.
He is curious. He is very treat motivated and will happily take treats right from your hand. He loves toys and enjoys watching what is going on around him. He wants to interact with people. He wants to be your friend. He just isn't ready to let someone touch him yet.
That distinction is important.
Drew isn't saying, "I don't want people."
He's saying, "I'm scared, but I want to learn."
And that's where the right person can make all the difference.
Drew needs someone who understands that trust cannot be rushed. He needs a patient, compassionate person who will allow him to set the pace and celebrate the small victories along the way.
Maybe today he'll take a treat from your hand.
Tomorrow, he might stay a little closer.
Someday, he may decide that a gentle hand isn't something to fear after all.
We don't know how long that journey will take, but we do know that Drew deserves someone willing to take it with him.
His ideal home will be a quiet, patient environment with someone who understands fearful dogs and won't expect him to become an affectionate lap dog overnight. He needs someone who will give him time, consistency, patience and, most importantly, the opportunity to discover that life with a loving human can be safe.
And he needs Bryan.
These two young dogs have already lost the people who should have loved them. We don't want them to lose each other, too.
Drew and Bryan are looking for a very special adopter who will open their home and their heart to both of them.
If you have the patience to help Drew learn to trust and the heart to give him the time he needs, you may be exactly the person he has been waiting for.
Drew is safe now.
He just needs to learn that he is finally home.
