Meet Bryan
Bryan is a tiny one year old boy who weighs only 12 pounds. He may be small, but the bond he shares with Drew is enormous.
Drew and Bryan are not brothers, but they have become inseparable. They have formed an incredibly strong connection, and when either of them feels frightened or uncertain, they turn to each other for reassurance. They are each other's security blanket, and because of that special relationship, we are looking for a home where Bryan and Drew can stay together.
These two little dogs came to us after being dumped at a high kill shelter by the people who were supposed to protect them. Their owners couldn't get out of there fast enough, leaving behind two tiny dogs who were frightened and completely dependent on each other.
We don't know what happened to Bryan before he came into rescue.
What we do know is that he is extremely fearful of people. If someone tries to touch him, he may immediately jump backward in fright. His reaction makes us wonder if he may have experienced abuse or mistreatment in his past, although we cannot know for certain.
Despite his fear, Bryan continues to show us that he **wants to trust**.
He is curious about people and interested in what is happening around him. He is very treat motivated and will take treats right from your hand. He loves toys and enjoys having things to investigate and play with.
Those may sound like little things, but for a dog like Bryan, they are huge.
Every time he accepts a treat from a human hand, he is taking a tiny step toward trusting people.
Bryan doesn't need someone to "fix" him.
He needs someone who will give him time.
He needs a person who will sit quietly nearby without asking anything of him. Someone who will offer treats, play with him, allow him to approach when he is ready and never force physical contact before he is comfortable.
He needs someone who will understand that progress may be slow.
And he needs someone who will celebrate it anyway.
The day Bryan chooses to come a little closer will be a victory.
The day he allows a gentle touch will be enormous.
And the day he finally realizes that a human hand can be loving instead of frightening will be something incredibly special.
We believe that day can come.
Bryan is only one year old. He has so much life ahead of him, and we don't want fear to define all of it.
His ideal home will be a quiet, patient environment with someone who understands fearful dogs and is willing to let Bryan learn at his own pace. He needs consistency, compassion and someone who will never give up on him.
And, of course, he needs Drew.
These two have already been through enough. They were abandoned by the people who should have cared for them. They shouldn't have to lose the one source of comfort they have left.
We are looking for a very special adopter who will open their heart and home to both Bryan and Drew.
If you have the patience to let Bryan learn what trust feels like, you could change his entire life.
He doesn't need perfection.
He just needs someone willing to believe in him.
