Meet Pixie. Pixie is an adorable Chihuahua. She is a beautiful girl who wants to share her love with you.

Pixie was part of a 47 small dog seizure in Collin County (north of Dallas TX). These 47 dogs were taken from a home that was in deplorable conditions. None of the dogs had any vet work completed. CRT worked with the Collin County Animal Shelter to transfer several of those dogs into our program. Pixie is one of those dogs. We are happy to have her – she is a delight.

Pixie gets along well with the other small dogs in her foster home. She enjoys running and playing with her 4 legged friends. Note that Pixie is afraid of larger dogs, so we recommend a home with smaller dogs (10 pounds and under). Pixie has also started playing with toys. Her favorites are the crinkly toys! She also likes chewy bones.

Pixie loves to lay outside and get her sunbathing in! She also loves to roll in the grass! It is important to note that Pixie is small and therefore will always need her human nearby while she is outside (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Pixie). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Pixie is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so she will need to be in a home with a solid, wooden fenced yard (no chain link, no wrought iron).

Pixie loves to meet new people. She has an outgoing personality and wants to be everyone’s friend. Pixie loves lap time with her family and will spend hours cuddling with her human. Pixie’s favorite thing to do is to snuggle on your chest. Her foster Mom works at home and she is a terrific “work dog” – Pixie hangs around in the office watching over the business, waiting for lunch time when she can sneak some love in. Note that Pixie is very active and loves to be right by your feet, so could be a tripping hazard! We are working with Pixie on this habit but her new family will want to be aware of this for safety reasons. Pixie is also a great travel companion – she is good in the car. Pixie is such a loyal girl. She has a very sweet personality.

Pixie is smart! She has done great with her potty training. She will go potty outside and will follow the other dogs out when it is time to go potty. She is also using potty pads as a back up. She still has an occasional accident, but it is amazing that she has learned so quickly (especially considering the circumstances where she was allowed to potty in the house with 46 other dogs – wow). We are trying to convince Pixie that she loves soft dog beds for sleeping. But Pixie wants us to tell you that she loves sleeping in bed with her humans and she would love to do that if you will let her! When we introduced her to a harness and a leash, she had no idea what it was! But she is doing well on her daily walks – even though she can only go short distances due to her size.

Our vet estimates that Pixie is about 1-2 years old. She weighs about 4.8 pounds (her ideal weight is probably 5 to 5.5). Her ribs were showing when we first got her and the vet asked us to get 1/2 a pound on her to get her to a healthier place! She is very food motivated and new owners will want to feed her separately from other dogs so she does not try to steal their food too. Maintaining a healthy weight will be important especially at her tiny size, so her new family should continue to measure and monitor her food intake throughout her lifetime. Pixie has a beautiful tan coat with white highlights. And she has the cutest face.

The ideal home for Pixie would be one with high to moderate energy. She is young and has a lot of energy and love to share! She would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. She does best with smaller dogs (10 pounds and under). Pixie does need a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works away from home 10-12 hours a day). Pixie will alert when she hears strange noises. For that reason, we do not feel she would do well in an apartment environment. There are no children in her foster home, but we think she would do well with older, mature children (10 and older). Due to her tiny size, we do not think she is a good fit with younger children. As a young pup, she’s looking for a forever home ready to share the next 15–20 years of love and companionship.

Pixie is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When it submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Pixie will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She will be ready for adoption in late April. Are you ready to give her a forever home?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
