Meet Nico!

Nico is a handsome long-haired Chihuahua mix with a gentle soul and a sweet little personality. At around 10 pounds and six years old, this good boy is looking for a calm, patient home that will give him the time he needs to settle in and feel safe. Nico can be shy when meeting new people at first, but once he warms up, he becomes a loyal and loving companion. He is an easygoing dog overall who enjoys doing his own thing while still being close to his people. He was a local surrender due to his owner going into assisted living.

Nico does well with other dogs once given slow and proper introductions, although he can be protective over food around them. That’s not much of a problem as he can just be fed separately. He is fine with kids, but a quieter home without very young children would help him feel the most comfortable and secure. Nico is under-socialized and still building confidence, so he needs a family willing to be patient and allow him to adjust at his own pace.

This sweet boy is crate trained and actually loves his crate, where he feels safe and relaxed. He rides well in the car, does great at the groomer, walks nicely on a leash, and is mostly house trained. He actually really enjoys going for walks and sniffing new things. Nico recently had a dental and now only has 18 teeth left, but that certainly does not slow him down or take away from his adorable charm. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and in good health.

Nico may not be the life of the party right away, but for someone willing to give him understanding and patience, he will be an incredibly rewarding companion. He is the perfect little dog for someone looking for a loyal, low-key best friend to share a peaceful home with.
