OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found.

Botas was found living on a construction site near Merida. One of the architects who worked there was feeding him along with two other dogs, however their safety was at risk with all of the big machinery operating around them, so the architect brought them to the shelter. Botas is a survivor and a very kind soul.
Botas is a very people-oriented dog that is very social and comfortable with human interaction. He readily approaches people, enjoys contact, is easy to touch and handle, and walks very well on leash.
Botas is also social with other dogs and has extensive experience living in a group environment. However, compatibility with individual dogs should be considered. If another dog growls at him or initiates a tense interaction, Botas may respond rather than disengage.
Botas does not show food aggression toward people. Given his history of living in a group environment where dogs experienced competition around food, structured and separate feeding is recommended during his transition.
He is an active dog and will need regular physical activity, walks, enrichment, and appropriate social opportunities. A yard is not necessary, and apartment living could be suitable as long as his activity and needs are consistently met.
Botas is a sweet boy that is searching for a calm, stable environment with people that will love him and give him all the attention and affection that he deserves. He loves to be active and explore, but also loves a good nap in the sunshine, a cuddle on the couch and a scratch behind his ears. He is loyal and affectionate with his people and loves attention. He does well with other calm and confident dogs.
Medical Notes: Treated for ehrlichia & anaplasmosis. Grade 3 Periodontal disease - scheduled for dental cleaning.
Good with men: Yes, he has had positive experience with male caregivers and the male veterinarian
Good with women: Yes
Good with kids: Yes, older children recommended as his interactions with kids has been limited
Good with other dogs: Yes, he is better in smaller groups, calmer environments. Too much chaos overwhelms him. He is great one on one with other dogs.

House trained: Unknown, he has never been in a house before; however in the area that he is currently living in, there is an interior and exterior area and he knows to go to the bathroom outside on the gravel, versus on the tiled area where he sleeps. House training will be required when he is introduced into a home environment.

Can be handled/touched: Yes, he did well for his grooming and vet examination and really enjoys attention from people he knows
Barker: Occasionally, he joins in when other dogs are barking
Flight risk: Yes, after a long and stressful travel day from Mexico and being introduced to an entirely new environment, with new people and nothing being familiar he will be quite nervous and may try to run. Extra precautions should be taken to ensure he cannot escape a home or vehicle while he settles in.

Walks on leash: Yes, he walks very well on a leash
Leash reactive to people or dogs: No
Rides well in car: Yes, he has had limited experiences riding in cars, but when he has been in cars he comes up to the passenger for pets and enjoys the view
