Ellie is fostered in the St Louis, MO area.
Ellie is a loving, sweet, and active 4-year-old female red tri Australian Shepherd with a beautiful long, fluffy tail, a playful personality, and a heart full of love. Ellie is deeply loved by her family, who have made the difficult decision to ask MASR for help due to their busy work schedules and young household. Their greatest wish is for Ellie to find a home where she can receive the time, attention, exercise, companionship, and love she deserves. She currently weighs about 35-40 lbs.
Ellie is affectionate, intelligent, and full of personality. Ellie doesn't go anywhere without her ball. She is fully housebroken and trustworthy with free roam of the home when her foster mom is home. She knows several commands, including sit, come, kennel, release, enough, stay, down, and outside, and she is continuing to work on skills.
Playtime Is Her Favorite! Ellie LOVES to play fetch! Tennis balls, rubber spiky balls, tug toys, and her large herding ball are some of her favorite things. She is an active, playful girl who would thrive with a family that enjoys regular walks, daily games of fetch, enrichment activities, and plenty of quality time together. Sometimes Ellie will carry a toy in her mouth while she's kicking a ball around in the house if no one wants to play fetch with her.
And after all that play? Ellie is more than happy to settle in beside her people for cuddles and belly rubs. She is a true Velcro Aussie who loves being with her humans wherever they are.
Other Dogs & People: Ellie has done well with other dogs and has successfully lived with canine companions. She has no history with cats, so a cat introduction would need to be handled thoughtfully. She has been around groups of people and honestly I feel like she is loving to everyone who walks through my door, no matter the age.
Ellie is crate trained and sleeps well in her kennel at night. She is great for grooming and wonderful in the car.
On leash, Ellie can become excited and may zig-zag or pull, but she responds well to positive reinforcement and would benefit from someone who is willing to continue helping her develop those skills. She is making great progress in the short amount of time with her foster family.
Ellie would do best with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and can provide regular exercise, daily fetch sessions, mental enrichment, structure, and lots of companionship. She is smart, affectionate, playful, and eager to be part of her person's life. Ellie has so much love to give. With patience, consistency, continued training, and plenty of playtime, this beautiful girl will make an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. If you're looking for a fun-loving, affectionate Aussie who wants nothing more than to play, cuddle, and be by your side, Ellie is your girl!
Ellie is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day.
