Meet Sugar Bear!
This sweet soul is ready for a furever home where he can play, get all the attention, and live his best life!
Sugar Bear came to B&B as an owner surrender due to his owner's health. This handsome boy can be a little nervous around new people, but just wants all the love. SB is very independent, but sometimes needs attention too. He enjoys belly rubs, chest rubs, under the arm rubs, neck, and behind the ears - all the rubs for this sweet boy! He will play with toys by himself but he also brings them right to you so you all can play together. He’s been learning to fetch with a ball, tug-of war with a rope, and learning sit/gentle when getting a treat. He loves to run up and down the fence line with the dogs next door! He is very active and loves to explore!
He loves it when his human gets ice from the fridge and if some drop on the floor - he will grab a piece at a time and run into the living room to eat it. He loves to sit on the couch so he’s able to look out the windows during the day and at night. He prefers to lay right under the TV so he can stare at you while you watch TV or right next to the couch so he’s reachable for pets! One of his favorite things is to sunbathe with the front door open, just enjoying the breeze from the screen door!
When it's time for bed, he loves to lay on the bed with you but may not always stay there. He will either lay on the floor next to the bed or in the hallway. But when you wake up, he’s back on the bed ready to kiss you!
Sugar Bear does beg for food and his future adopter will have to work on that with him. He does ok in a car, can be skittish with dogs, walks well on a leash with his harness, and has never met children. Sugar bear has never crated and currently roams the house. He would do best in a home with a secure fence as he can be a little bit of an escape artist.
He is being fostered in Richmond, VA and is up to date on core vaccinations, has been dewormed, microchipped, neutered, and is on monthly preventatives. He has been heartworm tested and is negative. His adoption fee is $375 and covers the cost of core vaccinations along with the cost of his care while in foster. We require that all adopters, regardless of the dog’s age, are committed to ongoing training and socialization as part of responsible ownership. To apply to adopt Sugar Bear, visit www.beaglesandbentleys.org/adopt.
Note: Sending a Petfinder inquiry is not submitting an application. We require a completed adoption application to move forward with adoption.
Beagles and Bentleys has an across-the-board evaluative process that we apply to every application we review that prioritizes our animals in need. We conduct a vet reference check (all resident dogs must be altered/up to date on dhpp/rabies and monthly preventatives, and cats must be altered and up to date on rabies) and a virtual home visit call where we discuss the adoption process and see your home.
