Meet Kitsu, a beautiful 50lb, Collie/Australian Shepherd mix just over 2 years old with a sweet personality, a goofy side, and the cutest little happy dances!
Kitsu is an incredibly loving, affectionate girl who absolutely adores her people. She’s been a wonderful companion in her foster home, where she’s proven to be intelligent, well-mannered, and eager to please. She loves being included in everyday activities, happily greets visitors, and is just as content relaxing nearby as she is learning something new.
One of Kitsu’s most adorable quirks is her signature happy jumps! Whether she’s waiting for her favorite treats or getting a fresh bowl of water (which she gets surprisingly excited about!), she can’t help but do a little dance. She’s extremely food-motivated, and her enthusiasm for treats makes training one of her favorite activities. She’s attended training classes, absolutely loves them, and is a quick learner who responds beautifully to positive reinforcement.
At home, Kitsu is a pretty easygoing girl. She settles nicely, sleeps peacefully through the night, and has a habit of picking the most random spots on the floor to curl up for a nap. Sometimes she’ll even make the sweetest little “woo” sounds in her sleep! She’s not particularly interested in toys and would much rather spend time with her people, work on training, or enjoy a good treat.
Kitsu has also done very well with the cat in her foster home. After a little time getting acquainted, the two have learned to peacefully share their space. Kitsu is respectful of the cat’s boundaries, even when the cat isn’t particularly interested in being friends! She has not been around children in her current foster home.
While Kitsu is a wonderful companion to people, she does have one important challenge. She is reactive toward other dogs and needs to be the only dog in her home. Seeing other dogs can be overwhelming for her, especially on walks, and she may bark, pull, or lunge. Her foster has been working with her on positive-reinforcement training, muzzle conditioning, and leash manners, and Kitsu has been a very willing student. In quieter environments without other dogs around, she’s even shown that she can walk beautifully on a loose leash.
We believe Kitsu would be happiest in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can enjoy the outdoors without constantly encountering other dogs. She’s looking for someone who understands dog reactivity and is committed to continuing her training with patience and consistency. She also needs continued work on house training, as she still has occasional accidents indoors.
There’s so much to love about this girl. Kitsu is smart, affectionate, funny, and genuinely wants to make her people happy. Her foster absolutely adores her and has loved seeing her personality shine. With a home that meets her needs, Kitsu has every opportunity to be an absolutely wonderful companion.
Kitsu is up to date on her veterinary care, and her adoption fee is $400.
