Meet Dixie! This sweet 7-month-old girl is thought to be a Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. She’s already 32 pounds and will likely fill out a little more, probably reaching around 40 pounds as an adult—just the right size for a medium-sized dog. Dixie was very scared when she first arrived and would spook easily, but she’s settling in beautifully and is starting to show us what a sweet, lovable, gentle, playful, and smart girl she really is. She does a good job keeping her kennel clean, but as a young dog she’ll still need continued training to help her become the best girl she can be. She’s also learning to walk more confidently on a leash. Dixie is very interested in the other dogs, so we think she’ll enjoy having canine friends and she’s open to meeting potential doggie companions. She can be cat tested, and we think she’d likely be fine with children who understand that she may need a little extra time to feel comfortable in new situations. Because Dixie is still easily startled, she will likely be a flight risk at first. Her new family will need to be especially careful around open doors and gates and when getting her leashed or moving her in and out of the house.
