Riggs is a nine-month-old Anatolian Shepherd who came to us from a 40+ dog hoarding case. The dogs were fed and kept reasonably clean by their elderly owners, but there were simply too many of them for normal socialization, so Riggs is still catching up on some of the basics of everyday life. Riggs is sweet, gentle, and shy. He is a natural dog introvert and he is just a quieter, softer dog who prefers a calm approach and a little time to take things in before deciding the situation meets his standards.
He does well with other dogs and cats, and he will do best with a friendly dog in the home. Another dog helps him feel more confident and gives him a steady example to follow. Riggs also needs a fenced yard, both for safety and because he is not yet a fan of loud noises, sudden commotion, or the many questionable sounds humans insist on making. Children over 10 would be best for this guy. Riggs is not looking for screeching, grabbing, running, or tiny humans with no volume control. Calm, respectful older kids should be just fine.
Riggs loves snacks, dog friends, gentle people, and the highly reasonable concept of 72 degrees of consistent indoor temperature. The Fourth of July will almost certainly be his least favorite holiday, and he would prefer everyone plan accordingly. He is looking for a laid back home with a dog buddy, a fenced yard, and people who understand that shy dogs blossom when they are given structure, kindness, and time.
