Reagan is a one-year-old, 105 pound Anatolian Shepherd from a 40+ dog hoarding case. The dogs were fed and kept reasonably clean, but the elderly owners were overwhelmed, and the dogs missed out on normal socialization and everyday home life. Reagan came through that situation with a surprisingly good attitude. In fact, he is the most confident dog from the entire group. That does not mean he knows everything yet.
Reagan is still learning about household routines, strange noises, and the many suspicious inventions humans insist are normal. But compared to the rest of his crew, he is ahead of the curve. He likes people, wants attention, and is much more willing to engage than we expected from a dog with his background.
Reagan is not a shut-down dog and he is not a project in the scary sense. He is simply a young, under-socialized giant breed dog who needs someone with patience, structure, and common sense. He is working on how to be a normal house dog, but he has the temperament to get there. He is sweet, friendly, and clearly wants to figure things out.
A confident, friendly dog in the home would be helpful for Reagan, but he is not as dependent on that as some of the others from this case. He is good with other dogs and fine with cats. Because he is still learning and will be a very large dog, we are recommending a home with kids over 10. Reagan will easily be over 100 pounds when fully grown, so his adopter needs to be prepared for a large livestock guardian breed with size, opinions, and a healthy sense of personal judgment. A securely fenced yard is required.
This is a very good and very friendly dog who got a strange start. Reagan has already shown us that he is resilient, social, and ready to move forward. Give him consistency, kindness, and a little time, and he will be a loyal, steady, deeply bonded companion.
