Juno (formally Janet), 1.5- 2 years old, spayed female, Staffordshire Terrier mix, 45 pounds. She is in a foster home in Austin, Texas and can transport once an adopter is approved.

Juno was rescued from euthanasia at a county shelter in Houston. Her shelter name was Janet and we did not think, well it fit her. Her foster mom has been calling her Juno.

Juno is a sweet, gentle girl who is still learning what it means to be a dog—and watching her discover the world has been pretty adorable.

Juno is affectionate, curious, smart, and incredibly gentle. Her favorite activity is being loved on by her people. Stop petting her and she'll happily nuzzle your hand or give you a little paw tap to remind you that her cuddle session is not over.

She is surprisingly low-energy and would be perfectly happy with a peaceful home and a leisurely daily sniff walk. She doesn't really understand toys or traditional dog play yet, but she is learning. She does well with other dogs, including both a senior dog and a larger, younger dog. Even when another dog plays a little too roughly, Juno remains calm and tolerant without showing aggression.

Juno has amazing leash manners. She may whine when she sees another dog, but she doesn't pull or lunge. She loves stopping to investigate interesting smells and would make a wonderful walking companion.

She's also:

Fully house-trained
Friendly with new people
No jumping or mouthy behavior
No resource guarding
Comfortable around stairs
Smart and eager to learn
An absolute snuggle bug

Juno's biggest challenge is separation anxiety. Being alone is very difficult for her, and she will need an adopter who is patient and committed to helping her build confidence. She does best when someone is home with her for most of the day, and having another dog around seems to help her feel much more secure. She should be crated when left alone while she works through this, and her new family will need to continue her separation-anxiety training and management.

We think another confident, well-socialized dog could be especially wonderful for Juno—not because she can't live without one, but because she could learn so much from a canine companion about how to play, explore, and simply enjoy being a dog.

Juno hasn't been around cats or children yet, but based on her incredibly gentle nature, lack of mouthiness, and tolerance with other dogs, her foster believes she could do well with respectful children.

Juno may not be the dog who runs into a room demanding attention or starts a game of fetch. She's a quieter kind of special. She's a girl who will quietly come over, lean into you, and nuzzle your hand when she decides you haven't given her enough pets yet.

Juno is looking for a patient, loving forever family who will help her learn that being alone doesn't have to be scary—and show her just how wonderful being a dog can be.

Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
