Meet Duck PC

I know what you’re thinking. Hubba hubba, that’s one beefy stud cake muffin. Yes, I’m very fit, so it makes perfect and absolute sense that I was found at a gym.

My Finder Mama could have named me Jim or Sylvester or Arnold or Travis, but she went with Duck because it organically happened...

I was flea ridden and the only thing on hand to bathe me was Dawn dish soap. They quipped, “if it is good enough for cleaning baby ducks, it is good enough for this guy”. So hence and forth, they started calling me Duck, or Ducky, and it stuck.

They did try to locate my owner and hells bells, I had a microchip. The chip told them that my name was Dallas. So Finder Mama was all “Dallas, Dallas? Is that you?”

No m’am, “tweet, bock, quack or whatever ducks holler, I’m a Duck now and there is no going back, quack.” Duck is your guy now.

I am not particularly interested in going back to being a Dallas, because my life was not good. I’m flea bitten and Heartworm positive, both of which are yuck.

This wasn’t the first time I crossed paths at the local gym. I had previously wandered into it earlier this summer with two canine companions.

Our owner came looking for us that time. A few weeks later, sadly, one of my buddy dogs was found after being hit on a nearby road. Coulda been my fate as well.

This second time, I walked into the gym alone. My owner did not come for me, and the microchip number is a path to nowhere, disconnected.

My Finder Mamas called shelter and made meaningful attempts to reunite, but let’s call a duck “a duck” as they say. It was not a great life and it’s best to leave it in the rear view.

My Finder People say I’m outstanding, the more you get to know me. the more you love me.

Despite being in poor condition, someone in my past took time to teach me because I know: sit and lay down, walk nicely on a leash, go willingly into my crate when asked, take food and treats incredibly gently, and respond well to redirection.

At the same time, some of the cushier parts of being a dog are new to me. Embarrassed to say, I was a knuckle head who didn’t understand the finer things such as dog bowls, dog toys and dog bed! What!?! They make stuff just FOR dogs?

Talk about being a big softie, I’m a little scared of the dark too.

I figured things out quickly, though. Beds are for snoozing, dark is not scary, bowls are for eating, toys are for playing, couches are wonderful, and laps are apparently meant for dogs my size. No?

No one has had the heart to tell me otherwise.

And if DOG toys and beds weren’t enough. Lemme tell you other luxuries I’ve discovered too.

Pup cups. Yes, favorite coffee shops will literally give me, A DOG, a cup of creamy delishciousness. They are helping me adjust to car rides which are still fairly new, but I am getting more comfortable with every trip.

One more admission, even the automatic windows rolling up and down freaked me out at first. Ha! It’s no scary now. That’s how they give you food at drive thru.

That's been a theme with Duck. Give me a little patience and reassurance, and I figure things out remarkably fast.

I am playful, affectionate, gentle, and just loves love. Even though Finder Mama says I’m too big to be jumping up with excitement, I don’t quite realize what “too big” means. So I’m learning to not jump for hellos.

Finder Mama says “With some consistency, we think his manners will catch up quickly with the rest of his good-dog skills.”

I have been good with other dogs and have done well with the 8-year-old child in my temporary home. There are not cats here, so we don't want to make any promises there until tested with them, but I’ve been non reactive to small things on walks.

Despite my long winded bio, I am remarkably quiet, barely heard a peep out of me, although my personality may continue to come out once I finally have a stable home of my own.

I do need to get heartworm treatment started before going to my next home, so discuss that with Patricia from the rescue.

For everything that has changed in Duck's world, I have remained incredibly gentle and loving. Give me a little kindness and I give it right back. Big time. With my big noggin in your lap as a sigh of relief.

Now that Finder Mama has given me a little taste of the soft life and I’m not just talking about the actual soft pup cups, I mean that metaphorical too. I do not want to go back to a hard life.

Finder Mama always has the last word:

“If you're looking for a big, soulful, affectionate goofball who thinks he's a lap dog and just loves to be loved, Duck might be your boy. ”
