DARLA'S WORLD HAS BEEN TURNED UPSIDE DOWN... AND SHE'S HOPING SOMEONE WILL HELP PUT IT BACK TOGETHER.

Meet Darla (DOB 2016) - a lovely Calico with a gentle nature and a tranquil, quiet presence.

Before Darla came to Safe Haven, she lived in New Jersey with an extraordinary woman who opened her heart and gave this beautiful girl the safe, loving home she had always deserved. Darla shared her life with five other cats who were also surrendered to Safe Haven, affectionately known as the "Jersey Cats" (Trip, Juno, Gatsby, Cynnamon, and Veronica—be sure to visit their Petfinder profiles, too!).

For many wonderful years, Darla thrived. She lived peacefully alongside her feline family, surrounded by love and security. She was happy, content, and exactly where she belonged.

Then, in April 2026, Darla's world changed forever.

After a courageous battle with cancer, her beloved owner passed away, leaving Darla and her feline family suddenly without the only home they had ever known. Due to overcrowded shelters, she was being considered for euthanization. Thanks to the compassion and kindness of friends and neighbors who intervened, Darla eventually made her way to Safe Haven, where she is patiently waiting for someone to give her a second chance. Miraculously her life was spared.

Yet despite all she has lost, Darla has never stopped being the sweet, gentle, and loving cat she has always been.

Darla has a gentle, peaceful spirit that brings a sense of calm to everyone around her. She can often be found cozied up in her favorite cat bed, tucked away in a quiet corner of the room, content to simply watch the world go by. While she isn't the type to demand attention, she will happily emerge when you take the time to engage with her. A wand toy is all it takes to bring out her fun side as she happily bats it around with gentle enthusiasm. Darla truly enjoys being loved and welcomes plenty of soft pets and affection. Once she's had her fill of attention, she returns to her cozy bed, curls up, and drifts off into a peaceful nap.

Darla gets along beautifully with her feline roommates and has shown nothing but kindness toward the people she meets. She also has a soft spot for treats - especially squeeze-up treats, which are a sure way to win her heart.

Darla would do best in a home with respectful older children and adults who will cherish the gentle, peaceful companion she is. Her loving heart, easygoing nature, and playful spirit make her an exceptional cat. She has already endured the heartbreak of losing the person she loved most. Our greatest hope is that she never has to experience that kind of loss again.
