Garbanzo has the cutest, funniest little face and ears, and whenever I look at him, I can't help but smile. He is a chill, affectionate kitten with lots of purrs waiting to be bestowed upon whoever offers up some pats. He loves to play with his siblings, spring toys, and fabric toys he can carry around and bunny kick. He also loves wand toys, although his hand-eye coordination is comically poor when he's trying to catch a ribbon. But that doesn't stop him from trying and it's extremely cute to watch how happy he is when you help him finally catch it.

Garbanzo is one of a litter of five incredibly special kittens who fought for several weeks to beat a nasty bout of feline coronavirus. They have been doing very well since their last treatment ended, after a relatively mild relapse. Garbanzo was the sickest of the kittens and it has been such a joy to watch him thrive and even outgrow one of his siblings. He eats very well and with great enthusiasm and has an adorable little belly to show for his efforts.

Since the bean babies were sick, they could not be integrated into the household, where we had a bottle feeder who would have been vulnerable to the virus. So, Garbanzo and his siblings may need a bit of time to adjust to a new, larger space. However, since they are also incredibly resilient and have been handled regularly since birth, they are expected to adjust very well once they get used to their new home and people. Garbanzo has a curious, outgoing personality, so play and a few pats will go a long way to helping him connect to his new family. He has not been around young children or dogs, so we don't know how they would react to them, but homes with calm, gentle, older children or dogs may be okay.

Garbanzo will need to have a cat buddy close in age. Since some cats exposed to coronavirus may occasionally shed the virus, adopting him with one or more of his siblings may feel like a safer option. If you already have a cat, it may help to know that this virus is extremely common - most cats in multi-cat homes encounter it at some point - and for the vast majority, it causes only mild, temporary symptoms. However, very young kittens and cats with weak immune systems can experience stronger symptoms, and in rare situations the virus can change into FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). Although FIP is serious, there are treatments available, now, and most cats respond well with proper care.

Garbanzo is a fluffy ball of absolute joy. He gets along well with his siblings and seems to strike a good balance between asserting himself to get what he wants and allowing his siblings to do the same. Garbanzo has a unique and charming personality - part wise, old soul, part silly, playful kitten, all rolled into one adorable cat. He will be a very special part of his forever family.

Like all ACR cats, Garbanzo is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites.
