DESCRIPTION

Cuddles ACCT-A-10820 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Cuddles must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by TUESDAY, MAY 5TH at 10AM. Should Cuddles's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

Cuddles is a suave, friendly 9-year-old tabby who originally came to ACCT Philly as a stray kitten back in 2017, and was quickly adopted into a loving home along with one of his littermates. Now in his senior years, though, he has sadly developed some health needs that his family felt they are unable to support in their home - Cuddles was recently diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, a condition which will require ongoing management, medication, and frequent vet visits.

Even in his older years, Cuddles still lives up to his name, enjoying snuggling up to his owners as well as their young children. Cuddles has also shared his home with another feline friend, so may do well in a multi-cat household. His owners also noted he is very friendly and social with strangers, and he's been a sweetheart with staff and volunteers at the shelter too.

While diabetes can generally be managed appropriately in a home setting, unfortunately the shelter is not appropriate in terms of managing Cuddles's condition; remaining in the shelter puts Cuddles at risk of potentially life-threatening complications, such as diabetic ketoacidosis. With this in mind, Cuddles must urgently find placement with either an approved rescue partner, or with an experienced adopter able to provide immediate medical intervention as well as lifelong management of Cuddles's condition.

BEHAVIORAL INFORMATION

Cuddles's owners described him as a cat who loves strangers and is very friendly. He lived with another cat and got along well with him, and also lived with children of all ages. His owners noted he "lives up to his name. Super friendly, loves cuddles, really good with kids and strangers. Friendly personality. Loves to cuddle and loves pets." They also noted that since developing diabetes he had been urinating frequently, urinating outside his litter box, and losing a lot of weight. He was noted to be drinking more than usual at home, but seemed to have a lower appetite lately.

During his 5/3 veterinary exam, Cuddles was noted to be "sweet and tolerant for exam."
