Twist has a cross beak. The upper and lower halves don't meet the way they should: they scissor past each other, which is where the name starts and why he eats the way he does. Large seeds are easier for him to pick up than small ones, and with those in front of him he feeds himself without help.
The maintenance is real but modest. Because his beak doesn't wear evenly against itself, it overgrows, and every month or two it needs trimming back. Your vet can do it, or you can learn to do it at home, and it's quick. Consider it beak upkeep on a rockstar pigeon, which not many people can claim.
He's easy to handle, too. He's not an instantly demonstrative bird, but he warms to people who are steady with him. What he needs is a home willing to keep an eye on the beak and pick up large-seed mix instead of small. That's the entire list. The band he was named for had a hit about not taking it. Twist would like to be taken — in, specifically, and permanently!
