Nera - Pigeon Bird for Adoption in Chicago, Illinois

Nera came in as barely more than a rumor of a pigeon — a baby too young to eat on her own, found weak and fading by someone kind enough to want her saved. That person did the sensible thing and brought her to a vet. Here's the part worth knowing: plenty of veterinary offices aren't equipped for birds at all. A dog or a cat is one thing; a pigeon is a whole different species, the way a human doctor isn't who you'd call for a horse. Nera got lucky. This clinic specialized in birds, knew exactly who to phone, and passed her along through a wildlife rehabber and into our care. Good food and steady TLC did the rest.

Her name means "black" in Italian, and she wears it on her head: a deep charcoal hood running down into a pearl-grey body, two crisp black bars ruled across each wing, feet the bright coral of a bird who has never once doubted herself.
