Umah D12495 - Yorkshire Terrier and Poodle Dog for Adoption

Umah is a sweet, loving little girl who is finally discovering how wonderful life can be. She may need some time to trust you, but once she does, you'll have a devoted little shadow who believes your lap is exactly where she belongs.
Umah is naturally nervous and timid, especially in loud or busy environments. When she feels overwhelmed, her first instinct is to run and hide. She needs a patient family who will give her the time and space to feel safe and get to know her at her own pace.
But once Umah lets you into her world, you get to see the sweetest transformation. She has started coming out of her shell, playing with the other dogs, playing with her foster dad, and showing off little zoomies once she's comfortable. She absolutely loves the couch and, if you're sitting down, she would very much like to be in your lap. At all times.
Umah is also a girl with some serious food motivation. She loves treats, happily goes into her kennel for one, and sleeps peacefully in her kennel at night. And just before breakfast and dinner, she does an adorable happy dance because she knows mealtime is coming!
She is potty trained, quiet, and knows basic commands. She's more of a lounge-and-cuddle kind of girl than a dog who needs constant entertainment. While she has recently started enjoying playtime, she'd generally much rather relax beside you, than spend the day running around.
Umah has been with her daughter for the past eight months, so transitioning into a new life may be emotional for her at first. Her new family should expect that she may be sad or unsure initially and be prepared to give her the patience and reassurance she needs while she adjusts. She may do well with cats who respect her boundaries. She is still somewhat nervous and unsure around other dogs, although she has begun making progress and learning to play with them.
Umah also has some boundaries that her family will need to respect. She does not enjoy being picked up from underneath her belly. If she needs to be held, she prefers being held chest-to-chest. These little details are important because they help Umah feel safe and understood.
Umah doesn't need someone to fix her. She needs someone willing to believe in her, go at her pace, and give her the time it takes to build trust. In return, you'll get to watch an incredibly sweet dog discover confidence and blossom into the dog she was meant to be.

This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment. RSR will provide heartworm preventatives until the retest is due. The adopter will be responsible for scheduling the retest and obtaining any follow-up prescriptions through their veterinarian.
