Meet Whatsit: the happiest girl in the rescue!

If happiness could be bottled up into one tiny dog, it would probably look a lot like Whatsit. This adorable 4–5 month old Chorkie first came to DPS with her three siblings, and after being adopted, she recently found herself back with the rescue through absolutely no fault of her own. Her adopter took wonderful care of her, and now we’re focused on finding the forever home that will love this little firecracker for life.

Personality

Whatsit is one of the happiest dogs we’ve ever met. She approaches every day — and every person — like it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to her. The second you come to get her from her crate in the morning, she bursts into a tiny celebration: bouncing, spinning, running in happy little circles like she simply cannot contain her excitement that you exist.

She is a true Velcro dog in the very best way. Wherever you go, Whatsit would like to come too. If you sit down, she immediately finds a spot nearby — preferably in your lap, but she’s also perfectly content curled up at your feet if there’s no room. Her favorite thing in the world is simply being close to her people.

And while she’s deeply attached to humans, she’s also wonderfully easygoing. She doesn’t get upset when left alone, settles nicely in her pen if no one is home, and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate without complaint.

Daily Routine

Whatsit sleeps in her crate overnight and wakes up around 7:30 each morning. She’s never the puppy crying to be let out early, but the moment you arrive, the celebration begins. After breakfast and some backyard time to stretch her legs and zoom around, she comes inside to hang out with her people for the day.

If everyone has to leave, she does just fine relaxing in her pen. In the evenings, she transforms into a champion couch cuddler and happily snuggles up for TV time before bedtime around 10:00.

Play Style

Whatsit has the perfect mix of playful energy and cuddly sweetness. She loves zooming around the yard, chasing toys, and entertaining herself with joyful little bursts of puppy chaos. She especially loves visits from the neighbor kids, who come over often just to play with her. She greets every child with the same enthusiastic hop-and-spin routine she gives adults.

But once the excitement is over? She’s more than happy to crash for a long nap or curl up beside you on the couch.

Dogs, Cats, and Kids

Whatsit previously lived with another foster puppy and did wonderfully — playing, cuddling, and sleeping in puppy piles together. She would likely enjoy another playful dog but doesn’t seem to need one to be happy.

She has also been very respectful around the resident cat. While another foster puppy barked and fussed over him, Whatsit mostly observed quietly and quickly lost interest.

She absolutely adores kids and has done great with young children who regularly come by to visit her. She also charmed an 82-year-old neighbor during a birthday visit, which pretty much sums up her universal appeal.

Training

Whatsit is crate trained and comfortable in an exercise pen. She’s still working on housetraining but is making good progress with pee pads. She’s also just beginning leash training and currently treats walks more like a chance to perform her signature happy dance around your ankles.

She’s teething a bit but has been very polite about sticking to her toys instead of household items.

Her Perfect Home

Honestly? Whatsit may be one of the most adaptable puppies her fosters have ever fostered. She would thrive with an active family, a couple, a single person, kids, another dog, or even as the center of attention herself. What matters most to her is having people to love and a home where her joyful personality can shine.

Her happiness is contagious. Watching Whatsit bounce through life with endless enthusiasm makes it nearly impossible not to smile right along with her.
