Meet Ben, a one-year-old survivor who is ready to leave his past in the rearview mirror—preferably while fast asleep in the passenger seat! While his original paperwork might say "Chihuahua mix," one look at his tall, lanky frame and fine-boned features tells a different story. Weighing in at a perfect 22 pounds, Ben looks much more like a Whippet, Terrier, or Feist mix, complete with long, elegant legs and an athletic silhouette.

Ben’s journey hasn't been an easy one. He was rescued from a severe hoarding situation in a Houston junkyard alongside 80 other dogs. When he first arrived at The Underdog Connection, he was suffering from extensive hair loss (see pic) and needed serious TLC to get back on his feet. Today, he has made an incredible recovery, and his sweet, resilient personality is shining through brighter than ever.

Despite his rough start in life, Ben is a gentle, playful boy who is completely ready to embrace the good life. He quickly wins over everyone he meets with his trusting nature and love for playtime. When it's time to wind down, he makes the perfect copilot; one of his absolute favorite things in the world is going for car rides, and he will happily snooze the entire trip away once the engine starts.

This handsome boy is looking for a family who will continue to show him how wonderful and comfortable life can be. Ben is currently being fostered in Houston, Texas, but his adoption fee includes transport to his forever home. If you're looking for a leggy, loving companion with a heart of gold, Ben is ready to hit the road with you.

The Whippet is a sleek and graceful breed known for its agility and speed, with origins dating back to Victorian England. These affectionate and gentle dogs make excellent companions for families and individuals alike, excelling in various activities such as lure coursing and obedience training. With their slender build and short coat, Whippets are low maintenance when it comes to grooming but require regular exercise to keep them healthy and happy.
