DESCRIPTION

Meet Freddy

Sometimes rescue comes full circle in ways that break your heart a little.

Freddy first became part of the Pups Without Borders family as a puppy in 2021. He was fostered, fell deeply in love with his person, and was adopted into what became his home for the next five years. Now, through circumstances completely beyond Freddy’s control, this tiny 9-pound terrier mix has found his way back to us and is looking for the person who will become his next safe chapter.

Freddy has been very loved, and underneath that scruffy little exterior is an incredibly sensitive dog who loves just as deeply in return.

Once Freddy trusts you, he wants to be close. Really close. He is a professional lap dog, expert snuggler and happy little shadow. He loves walks, tug, tag and hide-and-seek, but is equally content being a rainy-day couch potato. He’s also quite the character and makes hilarious, dramatic noises when he plays. And despite his best efforts, apparently this little guy simply cannot howl.

There is another important side of Freddy that his future family needs to understand. Freddy is anxious and fearful and relies heavily on predictability and the people he trusts to feel safe. New people, unfamiliar environments and too much activity can overwhelm him. He does best when people give him space and allow him to approach on his own terms.

Freddy communicates when he is uncomfortable, and those signals need to be respected. When overwhelmed or pushed beyond his comfort zone, he may growl and can escalate to nipping or biting. Because of this, we are looking for an experienced, patient adopter who understands fearful dogs and canine body language. We believe a calm, adult-only home would be the best fit for him.

Freddy can enjoy other dogs, but the match matters. He tends to do best with calm, respectful dogs who don’t rush or chase him. Busy dog parks aren’t his thing, and that’s perfectly okay. His history with cats is uncertain.

Freddy is house trained, although he may mark when adjusting to an unfamiliar home. He loves his walks, his soft bed and having a safe space where he can retreat when he needs some alone time.

At five years old, Freddy has already experienced a lot of change for such a little dog. What he needs now is the opposite: consistency, patience, predictability and someone willing to let their relationship develop at Freddy’s pace.

We know Freddy’s home may take a little longer to find. That’s okay. We aren’t looking for just anyone willing to adopt a cute 9-pound terrier. We’re looking for someone who sees the sensitive little soul underneath all that scruffy hair and understands that Freddy’s trust is something incredibly special to earn.

Because once Freddy decides you’re his person, you get a tiny shadow, lap warmer, nap buddy, ridiculous play-noise maker, squirrel patrol officer and a little dog who loves his person with his whole heart.

After five years in a home of his own, starting over won’t be easy for Freddy. We’d really like to make sure he never has to do it again.
